Got a nice surprise in the mail today (package was a few days early) direct from the fine folks at Missouri Meerschaum.
I was talking about pipes with a good friend of mine and he happened to mention that his dad - a former pipe smoker - had remarked that his best smokes had come from a cob. So, since my buddy has a birthday coming up, I thought I'd get him a couple pipes from FM's own resident cob sponsor.
Direct from Mizzou's fine cob fabricators:

Incidentally, my wife had the final pick in selection - she thought I should get ones that looked nice. The two in the stands (the bent Hardwood & the pony express) are for my buddy. But, I had to get something for myself too, so the straight hardwood is for me - and I think I am going to try it out right now with my new tin of Royal Yacht.

I love my pony express; I've never tried any of their hardwood pipes though. You should definitely check out the how it's made video for the corn cob pipes... Really cool and mostly done by hand.

Missouri Meerschaum there in Washington, Mo., is a national treasure. Sometimes for as little as $3.99 (less?)

a person can pick up a great smoking pipe and confidently enjoy tobacco of the highest quality. The cobs are

the bedrock of any rack, even if they get stored somewhere else.

I have always enjoyed the MM hardwood pipes. The first couple of smokes out of a new one can be well....a little funky but I have found that they smoke nicely. Enjoy.

I tried out my Ozark hardwood straight last night. I believe I described it as "crackerjack" last night. It really is a great smoker - and I went through three bowls of my Georgetown Tobacco 1261 in rapid succession. After the first bowl, it tasted broken in.
Not a fan of the filter though, another thread on PM forums was right, it does taste like mushrooms. Anyway, I'd never tried a filtered pipe before, so I thought I should at least give it a shot.
Anyway, more pictures:
