Not me. My mother. She's fine. High blood pressure, and migraine. She had stroke previously, and thought it was best to check in. She was at her doctor's for routine check up and they called ambulance. Just checked her out and had dinner with her.

But the story I'm about to tell is.. I only got stopped by the hospital security for two knives. Usually carry few more than that. They didn't catch my plastic one. I guess I'm slowing down. Wasn't carrying enough to take down small pack of rats.

Often enough when I travel by airplane, I either bring a few pistols or one of my hunting rifles or AR-15. Of course, I don't try to bring them into the cabin, but... in order to fly with your firearms you have to bring them to the ticket counter of all places and, LOL, open them up for everyone to see. There is NOTHING like opening up a rifle case and displaying your AR-15 or AK 47 in front of an all ready nervous group of travelers. One thing is for sure, it does seem to quiet people down in line who may have been a little pushy.

Be glad you are not living in Oz - the Nanny State

I got stopped at airport security and had a cigar cutter confiscated - because it was a bladed instrument. No, not a knife - an innocuous guillotine
What kinda monsters take away cigar cutters? Was it self-sharpening or was it scissor like? If it was one of those scissor like cutters, the airport security might have thought you might circumcise everyone on the plane. Pretty weird for a terror attack, but who knows.

Gotta ask, why do you usually brings guns with you? Only gun in our house is an 1864 US Colt flintlock which probably hasn't been fired since the Civil War.

The same reason I bring my pipes.

I could leave it at there...

Why do you bring anything when you fly? You plan on using it. When I am traveling, it is not uncommon for me to meet up with people who either are hunters or like to go target shooting.

Sometimes, some of these people also smoke pipes.

In each case, I bring the appropriate tool for the occasion.

I can't imagine going fishing and not bring a fly rod, or going walking and not bringing a pair of walking shoes, or... well, you get the point. On the way home from my last trip, the gentleman next to me was flying with his surf board. It never occurred to me to ask him why he felt the need to travel with a surf board.

Never really thought about it, but smoking pipe, sipping port and shooting off some rounds at random sounds like a peaceful afternoon activity.

Not an open bladed cutter - just a thumb+finger Guillotine job.
Not sure how anyone would find that a threat or classify it as a potential weapon 🤷‍♂️
Maybe I don’t have a deviant mind

Yeah, those guillotine ones are hard to cut anyone with. Unless you say "I'll show you a trick" and somebody volunteer to stick their finger in it.

Actually - it is fun going target shooting. The drinking and smoking start only after the guns have been put up. But that is a part of the fun as well.

I am sure most non Americans on the site found my traveling with guns to be odd - but my point is that a great many Americans freak out as well when I get to the ticket counter. But unlike a cigar cutter, I don’t have to worry about it being confiscated. LOL - what irony.
Oz sure ain’t the “Land of the Free” 🤬

In case any of you are planning a visit, be sure to read (and double read) the Australian Customs encyclopaedia to see what is allowable into Godszone (“God’s own” country)
25gm tobacco is the max tax-free allowable. Open/partly used pouches and tins are counted towards the total. If bringing in more than 25gms, then THE TOTAL amount is taxable (currently @AUD$1.70 per gram)

As for knives (much less guns) - don’t even think of it.
Recent case of an American woman who landed in court for bringing in a gold-plated pistol In her hand luggage. She was lucky not to have ended up in gaol.

Case in point, don’t give up your guns.

Best of luck for your mother.

I once nearly lost my pipe tool in Zurich airport, it costs nothing but has sentimental value as it’s about 50 years old and a gift from a beloved uncle. It doesn’t even have a blade, just the pointy bit, thankfully the security guy also noted my pipe and tobacco so he saw sense and didn’t take it from me. Now I take a flattened screw ;)
