So 12/17/2019 about 5:30pst I get a call from a phone number in Pennsylvania that I don’t recognize. Normally I wouldn’t answer but for some reason while I was enjoying a pipe full of Blue Note I answered it. My wife was on the other end frantic and crying. All I could make out was she was in an accident right down the road from our house.

I frantically shoved my lit pipe in my jacket pocket and clambered into my 81’ f150 custom. I tore down the gravel road to the asphalt strip nearly taking out my neighbors mailbox. Got my truck sideways on the main road and floored it. For a strait piped 300 I6 it leaped to 70 mph with a growl.

I get to the scene and search the mass of cars and fire trucks for my wife. With a quick once over I knew she was just shook up and not injured. At that moment all I saw was red and looking to kick ass and take names later. How dare someone hurt or try to hurt my wife.

4 cars involved, one able to drive away. On the curb sat a 20 year old kid that I could have flicked away like a mosquito. Scared, shaking, and talking gibberish to himself. He was the cause of the accident, he was still in shock. I put my anger to the back of my mind and drug the kid up to his feet. Firefighters swarmed me in case I came unglued on this child. I spun him around and made sure he was ok.

this was his car. A Kia or what was. Firefighters were guessing that he was doing over 55+mph upon impact.

My wife was the first vehicle hit which roles into another and they rolled into another. They were all at a complete stop. The one in the front had barely a scratch on his bumper.

I am not very religious but that night 11 minutes at 70 mph I prayed the entire ride to the accident.

This was my wife’s car.1289212893

In the last picture you can see how hard this kid hit my wife's car. The imprint of his front tag was left in the bumper.

So he claims he fell asleep at the wheel.

I am a CDL holder and if I get in an accident the first thing I have to do is take an on site drug test. Why isn’t it standard for everyone? Especially in an accident of this magnitude.

In retrospect the newer VW Beetles have won me over for safety. The airbag didn’t deploy, but if it had my wife would have been hurt worse than she was. The little car held up, the engine shut off and will probably never start again as is, the doors unlocked, and the flashers came on automatically. Cool.

Oh and if you want to see my truck, here it is.12907

Wow! Glad your wife is okay. Being in a similar situation years ago with our daughter...every terrible thought raced through my head all the way to the hospital. Took several months for our daughter to heal. All because some screwball slammed on their breaks to a complete stop for a squirrel.

Again, so glad your wife is okay.

My first car was a '74 standard Beetle bought with savings from Navy years without a car, aboard ship, on Midway Island, etc. It survived two accidents, a rear-ender by a guy loaded up on cheap wine, and before that a precipitous ice storm that glazed the expressway. They had little weight but some durability. When I'd hit the grades in the mountains, I'd think I'd blown the engine, then downshifted and plodded on. No a.c. in those buggies. After the accident with the wino -- he rear-ended me as I sat at a red light -- the body shop stretched the car back out straight with a hydraulic device. Hope your wife recovers okay from the shock. I'm glad she came out well physically. Keep on keeping' on.
