Glad you had a good time and I'm happy to see you indulged in a bit of TAD too.

Thanks Guys.
We smoked Golden Danske by WO Larsen.

It was a bit moist and therein lies the problem.

However; Raymond gave "me" a tip that may be of enormous benefit.

(insert a hunch shouldered, hand wringing, low evil laugh)

Way to go to you and Raymond!
I hope you told all of those people from the college about PipesMagazine.com!
P.S. You may have to give me the tip that Raymond gave you so that I will have a chance against him if I can Make it to Chicago this year.

Lawrence, congrats. Third is a laudable accomplishment.

Take pride in your feat.

It sounds like a very entertaining event.

Forgive me if I missed this, but in these competitions can you choose your own smoke or is everyone assigned the same blend?

Also, are there any restrictions on bowl diameter and depth?

Congrats on 3rd place Lawrence. It's really not bad when you are competing against Raymond, but I am sure it's frustrating having that steam-pop issue. That would annoy me too. You knew you go could go much longer and it was just a weird anomaly.
It is quite encouraging to hear about the younger contingent that showed up too.
As Bob said, hopefully they will join up over here.
Don't tell Bob the secret though. I will be competing against him, so tell me.

Hey Cornguy,

This was an informal competition, as opposed to the National in Chicago.

There are very specific rules in "official" competitions.

The annual Slow Smoke at the Briary is unusually tough because... well we have Raymond (Birmingham0irish) the reigning American Champion.

Yes everyone starts with the same amount of tobacco (3 grams), and 2 matches.

You have 5 minutes to prepare your tobacco and pack your pipe.

1 minute to light your pipe with the two matches, and your off...

Last man or woman smoking wins.

In "official" competitions pipe and tamper are provided, and one piece of paper.

I know Juni... Funny thing is my last practice was 1 hr. 22 mins. Same as Raymonds winning time.

But, to the victor go the spoils, and they are well deserved.
Congratulations again to Raymond!

:worship: Add my kudos. Your losing time is well ahead of my best.

On a related note, does anyone know when Russ Ouellette will release the blend

chosen for the Chicago competition? If memory serves it's called Log Cabin.
