I must clear that the machine is not inexpensive, usually sells for 180 to 220, wife found it at her bargin store called Dirt Cheap, taped on box for 59$, only fly in the ointment no returns, called me about it, told her you spend more on scratchoffs, buy it and Sa La Vie, came home maker was brand new. Triumph!

Well, since I started the post, I bought all these for Christmas 2023.

Baratza Encore burr grinder.

Bodum Melior Goose Neck Kettle

Chemex 10 cup

Greater Goods coffee scale

I just bought a Hario v60 Start Set in red a few weeks ago.

The only coffee accessory I owned before all this was just a Bodum French Press.

As you can see I’m turning into a coffee nerd! LOL 🤓

But I still haven’t figured out a Drip machine for the Mrs.

I really love the Chemex for its Clarity and Brightness. I love fruity beans, and the Chemex is great for fruity bright light roasts. Then I noticed when flavors start falling off, I’ll brew with the V60, which brings more punch and vibrance back, since it uses a thinner filter over a Chemex, it makes a bolder cup.

These are 3rd wave coffee roasters I’ve bought from this year.

Happy Mug

Black & White

Cat & Cloud

Twiga

Dark Matter

I received June 5th Blueprint Drupe I am drinking now, I’ve almost finished the bag.

Before I jumped on the 3rd wave band wagon at the beginning of this year, around 7-10 years ago I was in Alaska getting a little into coffee, and had a few blends from Raven’s Brew

I really love natural coffees that are not infused, which have fruity and floral characteristic. I never realized till I got into 3rd wave coffee, that a lot of beans from around the world have floral and fruity notes, along with many others.

Chemex my weapon of choice, as I mentioned for the Clarity and Brightness. :)

Now that'a a comprehensive post!

I’ve become quite the coffee nerd since December.

I see now, when it comes to all the various methods, it can be quite extensive how you go about the different processes, coffee to water ratios, brew times, temperatures, and the list goes on…

I really love Chemex for its brightness and clarity. I just started to get into using Hario V60.

All I can say, is if someone is really into this, the world of coffee has many flavors to it, from fruity, floral, sweet, savory and so much more, I never realized till I started getting into this.

Here’s some more roasters I plan to explore later.

George Howell seems to be a big name in coffee.

Founded by James Hoffman - Hoffman is a big name in coffee

P.S. Any Coffee Geeks, should be checking out James Hoffman.. ;)

Don't see how you can go wrong with:

Great coffee: Home - https://www.helioroast.com/

They ship your order the day of, or day after, roasting. The best I've had in an age. Experimented with all manner of roasters, and for the quality, their prices are cheap.

If you do order a bag, please let me know just prior; I get a free bag for introducing you, and you'll need my address. PM/M, or j77777p@gmail.com.

I was editing over the post when you replied and added to the coffee roaster list Onyx.

I’ve not heard of Helioroast, they have some nice looking roasts.

All I can say, there is a massive world of roasters out there. For now, I’m just exploring the biggest names in the coffee world, I mean, why not. LOL 😆 Because when it comes to local roasters, it’s endless, so might as well go for the big names in the business to see what they are all about, as well as supposedly getting to explore the best coffee beans the world has to offer. Then eventually I’ll start looking at small roasters.

Thanks for sharing… 🙏

Been through several methodologies and lots of equipment, but once we tried a simple Capresso grinder and Frieling French press we quit looking. It’s been 6 years since we first tried ‘em and we still use them everyday. Our local grocery chain (H-E-B) carries medium roast organic Colombian beans. Altogether it makes just-right coffee.

If bright notes in your coffee appeal to you, I recommend you track down a vacuum pot. This method of preparation is great for highlighting bright notes in coffee. Vintage glass or metal vac pots can be found pretty easily on eBay.

Can’t say I’ve heard of a Vacuum Pot before… 🤔

You mean like this? 🧐

Bodum ePEBO Vacuum Coffee Maker

I’ve only used a Chemex 6 months and 1 month with a V60. I’d say, in order to be an accomplish Chemex and V60 Guru, I have a long way to go, before messing with other methods.

It doesn’t look like a lot of people use Vacuum/Siphon, maybe one day I might check it out.

Thanks

My current setup is a Hario V60, coffee gator kettle, Greater Goods scale, and a Fellow Ode gen 2 grinder. I was using my trusty Bunn for years and in the last year I found myself not enjoying my coffee as much as I used to. Come to find out the Bunn just doesn’t get the water hot enough. I learned the ways of pour over and was sold. Fellow has a new drip machine where you can adjust your bloom times along with temperatures. It starts to ship in September. For now this is my setup for home and camping. As for my beans, we have a local roaster that I love. I have tried more boutique roasters but find most of them to be too sour for me.

I was just about to make an order from them, and I read this today on their site;

PLEASE NOTE: Sadly, HelioRoast's roaster machine catastrophically died on 25 June 2024. Hence, we are unable to process new orders through this website. Our new machine has been promised by mid-July, so please check back often between now and then. If this notice is no longer posted, we're back online!

Thanks for sharing the site, their videos have some really good info, can’t wait to place an order, hope they’ll be back online.

The Bodum that PipeIT linked to looks great. No price I could find, and have a question- does it automatically shut off? Amazon has stove top models from $70-$100 or so, but not this one.

I’ve only used vintage glass and metal stove top versions (a late ex-girlfriend had a world class collection). You would monitor the coffee brewing in the top; when you turn the flame off, the coffee would cool and break the seal, allowing the coffee to drain back into the lower vessel.
