I don't have enough experience to know that yet but my favorites so far are dunhill flake Orlik escudo and sg best brown. They are just too expensive for reg

Consumption.

Thanks again Roth for adding yet more tobacco blends to my list to buy before years end :( and of course ones that I want, but can't/don't fit the budget cellaring build for the near future *sigh*
Look at the H&H deal of buying 3 8oz. tins of the signature series for the price of 2 until Nov. 17th, you're looking at $24 a pound which is far under most "cheap" bulk blends. So depending what you like, H&H has some great blends. Depending on what cut and amount of Perique or other condiments, you're buying high quality tobacco cheaper than bulk. If you like Perique then LR for ribbon and AK for broken flake. Look through the list you can mix them up any way you choose.

Roth I can tell you that the bright reds do "sit down" after a year. It's no surprise that with tobacco moving so fast from blending to the customer that the strong VA's haven't had the right amount of time to mellow into the blend. IMO the bright reds need more time to rest into the blend to reach what the blender (Russ in this case) found after letting his test batches sit for months before giving it the green light.

Stokkebye Virginia Long Cut is a cheap but good mild VA that should be what you're looking for. Or you can never go wrong with McClelland 5100 or 2015.

5100 is the only bulk ribbon VA I've come close to liking.
I've not tried Stokkebye Virginia Long Cut though.

I know Russ has high standards for all his blends. With AK he faces a complex blend from a "happy accident" and coming in a broken cake which takes more time. I'd much rather wait months to get a batch that meets not only his standards but the true blend. When I talked to Nico about AK and the difference between the tin and bulk, especially about the price it basically comes down to breakage and waste. You will get more of the cake "pieces" in the tin version plus a big price difference ($24 a pound!). I've ordered it both ways and you do get more cake in the tins.
Viva the AK!

Craig,

Just curious where you're getting it for $24 a pound as I'd like to get in on that price. On P&C it's $17.95 for 8oz which is $35.98 for 1 lb. The bulk is $37.95 for 1 lb.

AHH yes I'm a dumb ass as I missed that in Craig's earlier post. lol
I forgot all about that sale as I usually buy the Marque stuff like BH and Magnum Opus.
Thanks Roth.

Check the other AK thread for Russ's comment on incoming AK...There's enough to start a revolution! Thanks Roth for the math backup :puffpipe: and yes the sale goes until November 14th. Catalog sales are different than calendar sales. If you look on the back cover it will tell you how long the prices listed are good for. It does say "most" which I think deals mainly with the pipes, but a quick call to confirm never hurts. No pain and got to chat with Nico on the whole tin/bulk situation. In December you're looking at $29.80, unless there's a price increase.

Thanks all. The macbarens is great. I havn't tried the 5100 and I may have to. I also had the dunhill Elizabethan mix in my order which is really good. Now only if they sold that and flake in bulk...

If you like SG Best Brown I just picked up a 250 gram box from SP for $30. Smoking it right now in fact. A great value for such a fantastic smoke IMO.
