WOW!! I did a search and NO golf threads....really? No one here plays golf or has any interest? Anyhow, just checking if anyone totes a pipe w/them on the course. I've seen guys who smoke their pipes while playing, but I dont, I'm a ceegar guy during 18 holes. If so, what do you do w/your pipe during a golf shot. I've seen guys slip the stem in their back pockets, take the shot, and get back at puff'n! Seen others make a 'pillow' from a towel and lay it across the seat of their cart.

Like you Fatman, I trade in my pipes for cigars while playing, two per round one on the front and another on the back nine. :D

Cigar is just easier; and an art just as worthy of apreciation.

I oen a set of clubs and that's as far as I'll define my game. Strictly cigars on the course as I believe it helps my balance. Also, I've found that I enjot the game more when I don't keep score. 4 Cigars per round is my average and the actual score is meaningless.

I played for many years but I stopped about two years ago. It was getting too expensive to play here in Norman, I could only get one or two people to play with me every other week and it wasn't worth the membership fees. Now if I could get some people to play with me on the regular, then I would pick the game back up! As far as a pipe goes, I was just starting the pipe as I was quitting the game of golf so no comment here!

I normally do a cigar during a round but I thought about a pipe whilst playing. Still don't have that art down.

I've been golfing for as long as I can remember; my parents are both involved with the sport in "off the course" capacities as well as being avid golfers themselves, so it was pretty much a given that my sisters and I would have clubs in our hands from the time we could swing, on. These days, I don't get to play as often as I would like, but I usually manage to hit my track once, and get in a session or two at the range each week.
When I'm on the course, I carry a cheap vinyl putter cover which I have lopped the top off of, fits a bowl nicely, and even bents can rest with the stem up. Just drop it down beside my bag, place my pipe, and go. On dry days, I'll simply push my divot-pick into the ground, and rest my pipe stem on the groove, with the bowl on the ground.
I should mention that unless I'm playing a mountain course, its pretty damned rare that I'll rent a cart; figure I should carry as often as I can, while I still can! If I was in a cart, I would probably just be inclined to take along a cheap pipe rest, keep that in the dash.

I've only played a handful of times, but I enjoy being out on the course. I've tried smoking a pipe once and it just kept getting in the way. I'd definitely like to get out on the course more often.

I just bring a cob so i don't worry about hte pipe getting trashed and a bunch of a "light" aromatic tobacco so i don't get to much of a nic buzz. i smoke 2 or 3 bowls in a round and just put the pipe down anywhere. never really have any issues or problems with it getting in the way. I use a "torch" style butane lighter and it all works a treat!

Marm; I've been a member at Pitt Meadows Golf and Country Club since the age of six (as I alluded to earlier, my father is on the board of directors for said club), but with scratch league and interclub play, I'm all over the place through the Spring and Summer.

On top of that, my mother is the Rules Director for the BCGA and head of player development for CPGA-West, so I often get chances to play courses through her that I normally wouldn't consider (Nick. North, Shaughnessy, etc.).

When I'm in your end of town, I am often found at Mayfair or Quilchena, although I'll admit that I have a special place in my heart for Mylora, as I shot my first sub-par round there.
Where do you play? I wonder if perhaps we could get a mini-tourney going with other board members? Anyone interested?

I posted a topic on this not too long ago myself and I received several helpful suggestions.
One was to buy a sitter pipe, let it sit in the cart or on the ground while you take your shot. Another was to buy a folding pipe rest and use that.
My wife actually did both...she bought me a sitter, and a couple of rests (a nice chrome one and a cheap plastic one to keep in the bag)!
Another option I have considered was purchasing one of the small, "bean bag style" pipe rests and placing it in the cup holder of the cart so the pipe could rest in it.
Good luck! Keep it in the short grass!
