Found a tin of Gold Block dated January 2016 in a B&M recently so I thought why not try it. Marginal reviews had me a bit concerned but what the heck.
Opening the tin was amazing - rich, stewed figs and hay aroma, nicely moist but not wet, dark golden brown. Man, this could be nice!
We’ve got a biter folks! Blends like this should have a picture of Hannibal Lector on the tin.
The taste is pleasant if you’re okay with a stinging painful tongue. Not my first rodeo with VAs and I’m by no means unfamiliar with sipping gently on feisty blends but man, this one is pretty warm on the tongue.
I’m going to enjoy it for what it is (the flavor is nice!) but I wouldn’t buy this one again. Even if it’s aged. Crikey, if almost seven years can’t mellow it out I don’t want to fool around with it again.
