A kept man???

I am reminded of a saying by Marcus Aurelius: "A man must stand erect, and not be kept erect by others."

I’ve never regretted occasionally being kept erect by another. It’s one of life’s little pleasures.

Marcus was a bit of a dunce, as is anyone who subscribes to the fiction of the self made man.

And in Marcus’ case, he had platoons to keep him “erect”.

My favorites are worn until they're usable as rags. There tend to be floods in this area every few years, so the stuff that doesn't get worn gets donated to local community centers. They're usually very happy to receive the over-sized and over-length clothes I wear.

Salvation Army may be a better option.

depending on how you feel about their politics.I don't remember what they care about, just that they're involved in causes that don't seem on brand or obvious. Just a it's your resources use them in an informed manner that is consistient with your beliefes.
Locally I go through church groups it's the best option here.

I've actually never used Salvation Army, I just know they're available in most big cities. I also don't really know anything about their mission or politics. This is why I take my stuff to people and not corporations or companies. If anyone's gonna profit off my clothing it'd be me, but I don't care to spend that kinda time on selling clothes so free to someone in need is the best option in my opinion.

Now I'm curious about the politics you speak of. I'm out of the loop

Honestly I just remember that they're under the category of it might be a surprise and worth double checking first. O.k. after reading a long list of charities to either support or not support depending on your stances and ones definitely not to support because if you like they're mission statement you'll freaking hate them (PETA was on that end of the list, if you like the animals you should hate the PETA). It kind of stuck with me because I always assumed that the Salivation Army was more of a we do one thing kind of group.

From what I understand the Salvation Army used to be an explicitly Christian organization that has gotten more progressively woke. Seems like they did a back peddle on some of this in recent years, but the damage was already done. I don’t drop dollars in their buckets anymore but give to local charities that I know do work I believe in.

I don't donate to Goodwill anymore, not so much because of their politics, but because they have gotten so picky about what they will accept. Certain household items and clothing that they think they have plenty of, they won't take. Understandable I guess but it's annoying to have someone pick through the boxes you're donating and say we don't want this but we'll take that. Now I donate to the Union Gospel Mission which has a good presence and runs the homeless mission here in our town. They're always very grateful for what we donate and very polite. They are pretty politically neutral and I know a little bit about the organization because when I was working with homeless veterans they were a great resource to help our clients. They give free clothing to homeless people and what they don't give away they sell for bargain prices in their store.

I cleaned put my closet to get rid of the clothes I couldn't wear. Had about 50 shirts and 4 pants I could not wear. I'll be having a yard sale during the summer and donating what I have left over. What do you all do with your old clothes? Do you donate or just toss?

Donate them to a local sheltered work shop that resells them at their thrift shop.

The Savation Army and Goodwill do the Lord’s own work but I find the smaller, independent thrift shops that are putting into practice the words of our Master, that you do to Him what you do for the least of these, our brethren.
