I enjoyed watching the Coranation. The Brits sure know how to keep things Old World. I too am conflicted. The King has no real political and governmental powers. He can only offer advice if asked. So I guess my question is why do the British people support the monarchy?

The Brits really know how to put on a show. Great pageantry, great fashion, great human drama, great everthing. It must trouble the in-coming monarch to know he's king because his mother, the Queen, had to die. I greatly enjoy the monarchy but really don't like the shenanigans that they get into. The press is just a bunch of bloodsuckers.

An avowed monarchist here.

Coming from Asia and seeing what passes as royalty/presidencies in those countries and the corruption that goes with those titles, the Brits aren’t too badly done by

At least we get along with our ex now. We could even have a tea party without fighting, of course it would have to be indoors with cups. Harbor-tea makes people irritable.
The animal rights activists and the environmentalists would be all over you today if you filled the harbor with Earl Grey. rotf Something about fish and marine mammals and caffeine dependency.

I've enjoyed two visits to UK and appreciated the hospitality and cheerfulness of the people I met. London is a great city and a pleasure to explore.

We didn't watch much of the coronation. My wife turned it on without sound early (for us). We looked at some photos on her phone later

I did laugh uncontrollably for a long time and have been having small laugh attacks since, having seen a photo at normal range of Prince William in his coronation regalia.

I guess everything is scaled up and exaggerated like opera costumes so that crowds hundreds of feet away can see it in the cathedral or high on a balcony, but looked at at normal range, it really is Gilbert and Sullivan or Monty Python. huge guided rope and tassels, a bead necklace with beads the size of billiard balls, huge carved emblems that look sawed off furniture, and then a trim little military officer's hat that proportionately looks like a doorman's cap. I guess that's show biz. It is something to see.
