GL Pease's Cumberland is one of my favorite blends. To me it is mild yet flavorful. The jar I'm smoking from is from 2005 so the age may be part of its appeal to me.

I see that Six Pence is also a VA, Perique and Kentucky blend and I wondered how they differed. I see Six Pence is prepared differently and has some flavoring.

Any thoughts from others as to how they compare or differ?

Thanks!

Ron

I’ve smoked both but probably not in the same decade, lol. I remember liking them but moved on to other stuff and never looked back. I remember a drier, less sweet experience of Cumberland with a good amount of strength but it’s been a good while. When a smoked Sixpence much more recently there was nothing that made me think of Cumberland but it could the distortion of years in between. Looks like I need to revisit them.

Cumberland is a top 10 blend for me. Great stuff! Older tins of it have a wider cut ribbon than newer tins. the newer cut is by no means shag, but definitely thinner. Six Pence should have been right up my alley, but other blends captured me more.

I've noticed that there is almost more reliability in expressing what kind of blend you're getting by the name of the blend. I read tin descriptions mainly to keep my supply balanced. Don't want all VaPers for example or be stuck with just great burlies. But I try to figure out what I'll be getting by the name, which with some brands you can tell more than others. C&D is the worst with that though. Some of their blends the name tells you everything some of their blends seem to have gotten the madlibs treatment.
