This is not a real review but Im trying this blend and had my first taste of it. Its an unusual blend. On top of that Im not Jim so I dont have the words to really describe this one well so forgive the shortcommings. I thought Id write something since there is so little info out there.
Here is the presentation. It a nice little hinged tin. I dont think its vacuum packed. The tobacco is not bone dry but it needs to go straight to a jar. This specific one is perfect. It does crumble, its thick and wont really fold. I rub them out anyway so its no big deal for me. There are 6 wide flakes in a 50 gram tin. The tobacco smells funky. The tin note is nothing you would expect from a 40 percent lat belnd. Its neither pleasant or unpleasant....just unusual. Musty, a little smokey, a little oriental. The tin notes gave me serious doubts

I will start with saying what it is not:
This is not a lat bomb, nothing close to it. It supposed to be Turkish lat so it doesnt have the insence like power of cyprus latakia. If you try one of these blends and you enjoy latakia I suggest the 40. If there was less I dont think I would enjoy it as much.
This is not a super smokey fat blend.
Its on the lighter side due to a lot of orientals but there is a nice fruity quality and a bit of citrus and spice. So it does have a lot of flavor going on in the midrange.
Ive smoked this bowl with and without a 9mm charcol filter. I have not decided for my own personal taste yet but I think this is a blend Id smoke with no filter. There is not the presence of that darker flavor I find in a lot of other blends. Again, probably becuase the amount of orientals? A filter allows for more of the citrus sweeter flavors but it also makes a fairly lightweight beld a bit too light.
There is some sweetness and a pleasant tang from the virginia as well. Some light bready notes but I would not call it a bready virginia.
Its suprising but with the amount of lat in the blend, while always present is almost a condiment. This especially when compared to things like Quiet Nights, HU Tuarekh, Plum Pudding and a number of others. Its rather fun becuase it weaves in and out of the other flavors...some of which I cant name with precision.
So far on the first round it seems to burn pretty slow but it requires a few more relights, despite not being wet. It could be that I was cautious about rubbing it out too much. Time will tell
I did not have many expectations of this blend but I figured Id give it a go. Im not typically fond of orientals but this blend is different and honestly, its pretty cool...its not a flavor bomb but it is well bended blended keeps one intersted and engaged.
If you want something different its worth grabbing a tin of this.
