gsmunoz: I see what you are saying but I also like to think that the tin pressure is a good thing. Any worry I may have stems from reports of other blends so the worry exists only in my head and not in reality. I have a single tin, if I blow it (literally?) then that is just how it is. I'll keep it sealed for now and sleep fine.

Good for you fmgee. You are far more disciplined than I am.
When you crack those tins, may you find the most beautiful plume you could ever hope for!

I generally agree with that, this is an exception.
I got 3 tins last night , opened one and it smelled so good I smoked it
It undoubtedly will age well, but it is good to go now.

This is the most impressive new blend I have tasted since Red & Black. It is completely different than that blend but I find it stunning.
I am old now but I am going to need at least 5 lbs of this to get me to the end of the line.
It is excellent now and in 1-5-10 years it should be sublime.
Also, I disagree on the bad seal. I think it was already fermenting. Mine was swollen yet still wooshed when opened

^^^ You've got my attention. I'll probably pop the tin I have and order more soon. I just have to finish some other tins before I do, I've way to many open right now. You've got me very excited though.

I suppose I am mostly a Va and VaPer guy. While I love Gregs ethos, most of his blends just don't trip my trigger. This one its it square on.

I need to address a couple of things. First, the bulging tins are not an issue, other than an aesthetic one. There have been no reports of mold in any of my products, and we are watching the new ones especially closely. Some tins are going through some, shall we say, enthusiastic fermentation, but every example that we've opened has been not only fine, but wonderfully so. Think of it as a little jump-start on the aging train. But, these blends have gone through thorough QC, and we're not concerned about a little pressure. Now, if that pressure becomes too great and the tins explode, that's another story. Personally, I wish the tin of Regents in front of me right now was bulging like that...Patience is not my strong suit.
The second thing regards the notion that my tobaccos "need at least a year of aging." I suppose there are those for whom this is true, at least with some of my blends, but it kind of frosts my cupcakes when people make sweeping proclamations like that without even having the benefit of having opened a fresh tin of the tobacco under discussion and tasted it. And it happens every time I release something new. ALL of my blends are built with aging in mind, yes, but that doesn't mean that they "need" to be aged. Frankly, I'm sure Regents and Temple Bar, just like Sixpence before them, will become richer, more nuanced, more complex in the years to come, and that is as it should be, but they're delicious, rich and aromatic (in a naturally good way) out of the gate.
Of course, I recommend cellaring these. Of course. But, I don't recommend cellaring ANYTHING without first smoking a tin to see if it's going to trip your trigger over the years to come. And, frankly, exploring these blends at various stages of their development is half the fun of the whole "cellaring" thing; at least it is for me (and I've been at this for more than a couple years), so acquiring some to smoke, some to age (lather, rinse, repeat) is the most sensible approach.
As for "aging before selling" is concerned, the only difference between my tins and those from across the pond is the time it takes t
Here's the problem. Someone new to the game will look to those who have been around the block for guidance.

Here is a pic of my tin next to an unswollen one. It is not that different but you can sit it sits higher as the bottom is rounded. It is kind of neat to see and I wonder if the pressure keeps building overtime?
Nothing to worry about, fmgee. I'll make a more complete statement later, but these two have been through pretty intense quality control, which is part of why it takes so long for me to introduce new things, and there have been zero reports of mold. The occasional slightly puffy tins result from a little extra early fermentation going on, and the tobacco in those puffy ones has been delightful. So far, the pressure seems self-regulating, and we haven't seen any explosions. I agree that it can be a little disconcerting, but there's nothing to worry about.
Open, and enjoy!

Well, it looks like my "more complete statement" beat me to the punch. I was in the middle of editing it, and it ended up getting posted...
Disregard the last two fragments. They were meant for something completely different...

Thanks for weighing in Greg. It is great to hear the bulging tin is a good thing and self regulates (mind you if the pressure was known to continue to build I might wait for it to open itself!).

Greg makes an awfully good point. It's not really fair to claim they require aging. He isn't selling tobacco to a bunch of folks holding it for a year.
This is a small, and rather weird subset of pipe smoking and opinions expressed here do not reflect the general pipe smoking community.
The blends of Gregs that I do enjoy I enjoy fresh as well as aged.

To the tables down at Mory's,

To the place where Louis dwells,

To the dear old TEMPLE BAR

We love so well,
Sing the Whiffenpoofs assembled

With their glasses raised on high,

And the magic of their singing casts its spell.
Yes, the magic of their singing

Of the songs we love so well:

"Shall I Wasting" and "Mavourneen" and the rest.
We will serenade our Louis

While life and voice shall last

Then we'll pass and be forgotten with the rest.
We are poor little lambs

Who have lost our way.

Baa! Baa! Baa!

We are little black sheep

Who have gone astray.

Baa! Baa! Baa!
Gentlemen songsters off on a spree

Damned from here to eternity

God have mercy on such as we.

Baa! Baa! Baa!

Pardon my french, but Holy Shit!
This morning I opened a tin of Temple Bar that I received a couple of weeks ago. I am in the middle of my first bowl of this stuff, and am absolutely blown away by how delicious this is. This is the finest oriental forward blend I have ever smoked, and is just fantastic.
Just what I need -- another tobacco that I need 50 tins of in the cellar.

Gee-willickers...Peck's description of this one was so lame and non-committal I decided to crack my first tin of Temple Bar. I'll be back.

Wow. High praise! I'm so glad you like it. Was yours one of the rare puffy ones? ;)
I guess I need to open another one, myself...

I am patiently awaiting a couple of tins that I just ordered from 4Noggins. At this point, I am hoping the Canadian postal strike will hold out long enough for me to receive my package.
This tobacco sounds absolutely amazing though. I cannot wait to load a pipe-full.

My open tin of Regents Flake just told me it was feeling left out. "How come that brownie looking thing gets all the love?" Dunno. Maybe people just like brownies...

I just put a dent in the stock at smoking pipes. One more GLP blend to add to the mix. That is a good thing.

LOL, yeah, I wasn't even done the first bowl and I had a Temple Bar order launched at SP.
I need to try Regent's Flake now.
