I singed my tongue pretty bad two weeks back. I let it rest for a week while using Biotene mouth wash regularly. Had a pipe again and still nothing. Is there anything else I can do to help this besides giving it more time (2 weeks?) to rest?

Edit: I also want to mention I've lost just a little bit of taste when it comes to food but that's not very noticeable, especially compared to being able to taste flavors from the smoke.

Nothing heals like time. I know the frustration of not be able to taste one's tobacco. Bullocks! Lost my sense of taste a couple times with Covid and it sucked much of the enjoyment right out of smoking, which is one of the things i look forward to as many opportunities as possible during the day.

Wishing your tongue a full recovery ASAP!

Thanks for the advice and well wishes, DJ! Guess there's nothing to it but to do it... er... I guess not do it, in this case.

Some things that seemed to work for me with tongue burns:
-Eat cold stuff like a slushy and let it sit on your tongue
-Gently exfoliate the dead cells from the tongue with granulated sugar
-Brush tongue with toothbrush thoroughly, but not too roughly
-Avoid toothpaste with SLS or similar compounds

I've had a hard time with this for years. Even a sip of slightly too warm coffee seems to scorch my tongue for weeks. It's the weirdest thing.

A week or two break will work. I switch to a gourd calabash during those necessary rests when they occur, and smoke very gently. However, it isn't only the heat that burned you; it's the alkali in tobacco smoke, which can be worse. For this, I often chew a couple vitamin-E jells a couple of times a day, which I have no idea whether they work or not. Good luck getting back!

Thank you! I had a bowl from a small cob a few days back and noticed the flavor hadn't returned though my tongue feels better physically.

I had something similar happen. I took a break and quit for 2.5 weeks and everything came back with intense flavor again. Usually, it shouldn’t take this long, but that’s just how long I took off. Nicotine also became powerful again. Also, the Biotine stuff is wonderful.

Thank you for giving me hope. I was thinking at times, "Is this what it'll just be like moving forward?" I haven't been able to keep away from a pipe for more than a week because there was the NASPC, then a bonfire (ok I could've not smoked there), then this coming week a friend of mine asked me to teach him how to smoke a pipe properly before he takes off for Spain. But I'm just taking it easy at these times so the setback after each should be minor.

Well, I guess I didn't quite take it easy at the NASPC but easier than I wanted to 😅

I had it from time to time - either from changing too many pipe/different tobaccos, smoking (clove) cigarettes, or simply too much pipes which gave me the "extended tongue bites". Everything taste the same (like a hot cardboard) and i tend to change pipe/blend which of course only make the situation worse.
Sometime i change to a Pete with Plip to relieve the tongue of hot steams, try to smoke slower (worked from time to time), mouthwash with listerine, drink some alcohol, casual sex etc etc.

The best way for me is to stick with one pipe one blend for some time whilst slowing down to give the tongue a rest.
A day or two of total no smoking would have been a great relieve for the tongue but i would be mad by then - so not much use going in that direction.

I am convinced that this was a big part of problems for many pipe smokers. Our mouth learns what to do as a result of negative natural consequences, but then we change it up. Just when it learns the answers, we change the questions. This cycle fades over time, but after a week at the beach on cobs, I still have to be careful returning to my home rotation.

I think I can stick to one blend but the one pipe will be the challenging part. But, if that's what's needed I'm sure I can tolerate it.

In my case with Private Stock - it is best on the Stanwell Royal Briar 336 (short, right)..i have tried on the GBD (center) and many times, the Stanwell does better. Yet the GBD is best for Loch Ness (Drucquer). So if i got into trouble i would try to stick with one blend and one pipe for few days just to see how it progress.. puffy puffy puffy
Everytime i try to mix again (i could use 5 pipes per day with 3-4 different blends) - i.e using the Charatan on the left for other blends (lets say SG BBF or Sunbear or ES or Rattrays) then it takes some time to adapt with corresponding unpleasentness - tongue bites, bad taste etc. So there may be a case - to some extent - of not changing too much, at least for some time.
