So.... in the last post I made I said I bought a simple corn cob.
Well I ended up getting another pipe lol, RIP my bank account. It really wasn't that expensive though, it's a briar pipe from Rigoletto and really is just more substantial and a better all round pipe. Plus I prefer the lack of filter and more access to flavour.

I've found I'm a real sucker for Scandinavian blends, since they're not overly sweet but are certainly agreeable. I tried two Chieftans and have one Sokkebye, and the Sokkebye was just better all round in my opinion. The Chieftans, seemed to lack a lot... I don't know. Perhaps I should give them another try or just wait until they've aged a bit.

But it really doesn't take that long to get used to smoking pipes. I will absolutely be looking into Sokkebye and any other Nordic blends if I do buy any more tobacco.

The greatest mark of restraint is me not buying any more pipes XD.
But yeah I've given everything a thorough test-drive and will absolutely continue this as a regular pass-time. It's not only enjoyable but also great for my mental health, which has been faltering these past few days.

Had a fat bowl this afternoon and really put things into perspective!

I smoke more Sokkebye than any other tobacco.... which is kind of crazy because I don't really like Danish pipes, which is also crazy because I do like the Jobeys I own. Could it be I like the way the Jobeys smoke because they look kind of like a Sea Rock? No, I've got one smooth Jobey and it smokes good too. Jobeys were originally from England and now made in France, but mine are from Denmark... I'm so confused. So, you see, you're not the only one with mental health problems. cray

Wow there really are some fancy ones, I mean that's obvious since there are fancy stuff of everything, but, I love the look of Jobeys. When you mean Danish pipes do you mean the ones with the very striking bend? I'm looking on a Danish pipe shop now and they have a crazy amount of variety.

"striking bend"? Do you mean an extreme bent stem? If so, the answer is no. As a new pipe smoker I suggest you keep it simple. Pick something with a straight or near straight stem. You'll find it easier to keep clean and unclogged. Try something with a blasted or carved finish, they are cooler on the hand, you get a better grip and they cost less. Fancy high priced straight grain never made a pipe some better. Don't go for some exotic, freehand that is oversized and overpriced. Your standard English shapes or something close is your best bet. If you find something you like post a picture here and the info and I'm sure you'll get lots of advise. Good luck. puffy

Corncobs have gotten an undeserved bad name. Mostly because people buy them for costumes. BUT, they are great pipes and perfect for new smokers. They help keep it cool and dont ghost (which is huge when you want to try a ton of the baccys out there. I always have cobs around. When I first started, I had cheap briars. I even scored 10 cheap briars on craigslist for about $12. It allowed me to learn how to restore an estate pipe, and not worry about damaging an expensive pipe. Don't feel bad about buying cheaper pipes, you are doing exactly what you are supposed to do. I dont know too many people that jumped in with $100+ pipes.

Why do you say cobs don't ghost?

You'll find almost no one uses the filter in the cobs.

I stand corrected. I always heard that, but just did a search, and found out I was wrong. Ive always smoked the same types in my cobs (they are so cheap), so I never got to test that theory. I have a cob called "pipe of death" for 1792 flake, lol.
Yes that blend will ghost meerschaum haha. I smoked it out of my claw meer the other night and I'm sure the next time I smoke it I'll be tasting hints of 1792

"striking bend"? Do you mean an extreme bent stem? If so, the answer is no. As a new pipe smoker I suggest you keep it simple. Pick something with a straight or near straight stem. I wasn't really thinking about buying a new pipe, I have heard people warn that if you smoke one too often it will get wrecked, but I let it cool and clean it often so I don't know.
I see a lot of long term pipe smokers with a billion different pipes so... But I'm quite comfortable with the one I have now. I'm pretty young and just trying to get into the workforce so I don't have the kind of revenue (exactly no revenue) to be buying a boatload of pipes. Though I do have some savings from a part-time job I had.

I have a couple of expensive pipes and I still prefer my cobs any day of the week. Yes they can ghost. But not really as much as briars or meerschaum does. They need a thickish carbon cake before they ghost to a noticeable extent( just my experience, other peoples may vary ) and if they do….5 bucks gets you another cob haha. Save your money for baccy and get yourself 5 country gentlemen cobs and you can use them, smoke them, drop kick them through flaming goal posts and they will still work. P.S I like filters(Dr Grabouw or 6mm Savinelli) in my cobs. Again personal preference. The country gentlemen and many other cobs can be used with or without filters.

Actually I could use some advice, I need to get one more pipe in rotation. I simply don't like the draw of the meerschaum cob I bought. In all honesty I'm not a fan of them altogether.
I'm looking for a pipe that's around £30-£40, maybe a bit over but nothing too crazy. Durable and preferably bent I think. It's just I've had such a good experience with the curved Rigoletto I bought.

That and I'm probably going to get a Nording and 2 Sokkebye blends or something. I don't think Chieftans are my thing, I don't know how they compare to other English blends but honestly they're pretty unpleasant.
