My first nirvana experience with tobacco was more a result of the activities preceding the cigarette than the tobacco itself. Now, I can only imagine the bliss of a great bowl in bed, but I try to not smoke in the house, and certainly not in bed. Besides, a pipe by itself is a lot easier and more frequent than any other activity I engage in, except flailing away with a golf club.

Aside from the process, how do you / did you train your pallet to detect the many nuances of your tobacco?
Repetition and exposure over time. Simple as that.

As much as many of the self-important hipsters and pseudo-intellectuals like to pretend otherwise, it's not that complicated.

I've heard some talk about a method to get the most flavors, which involves smoking your pipe inside a plastic bag. You have to first put the plastic bag over your head and then bring the pipe inside the bag and smoke it, so that the smoke doesn't escape the bag... but, the guys never reported back to let us know how it worked. In fact, I don't see them on the forum at all now. :puffy:
