I knew that Sol was pretty huge in human terms, but a few months ago I was reading an article which included a "throwaway statement" that light from the Sun's poles (and I guess all around the edge of the solar disc) takes 10 minutes to reach the earth, as opposed to 8 minutes for light from the center.

For anyone who didn't want to mess with the math, the above chart means if the Earth's sun was the size of a men's regulation basketball, the largest star we know about---which is almost certainly not the largest there is---would be over a quarter mile in diameter.

Put still another way, if the largest star was a meatball, it would be more than Sasquatch could eat in a single sitting.
