GBD seconds. Smooth pipes will have fills. Some really gnarly rustication. A great price for those just beginning a pipe rotation.
Thanks for the heads up! Took a punt on a couple pipes. The price is right - so long as they smoke well, I'll be content.

Click on half-price pipes on the Iwan Ries menu and you will see new GBD's offered for $60. I can't tell if GBD's are still being produced or if all this is old inventory. Anyone with a backstory please inform us.
I think these seconds will be prefect for car and travel pipes, or to build a rotation for new pipe smokers. I am greatly tempted but I have so many pipes, by my lights anyway.

Received three seconds pipes today. They look good, excepting stray stain and the like around the stems and inside the bowl. No matter - a little elbow grease should get it all squared away.

Got mine. Two fills (yes, it says they have fills but these are ugly) and I can’t even fit a pipe cleaner into the stem. Pass on them. If anyone wants mine I’ll sell it for around the same price I bought it.

I found a couple of UK pipe shops that sell GBD “Pub” pipes. Apparently, The Briary in the US does, as well. They do not resemble older GBDs and they have a ‘stinger’. They retail for about $120.

First time smoking with this fun little pipe. I honestly cannot tell what determined this to be a "second," unless it's got something to do with the rusticated finish, but I'm not educated enough to know what that issue would be. It smokes great, far better than the piece of crap Rattray's pipe I bought a couple months ago at 4x the price. It passes a pipe cleaner like a hot knife through butter. The mortise and tenon are well-made and there are no discernible flaws.

I am very happy with this purchase and hope the other 2 perform as well as this guy. This will make a great Virginia pipe that I would recommend to anyone, assuming no major flaws. Incidentally, i chose Peretti's 150th Anniversary Flake for the maiden voyage. I don't hear a lot of chatter about this blend and I hope I'm not letting the cat out of the bag, but if you like dark, pressed virginia with a deep complex profile, you need a paint can of the 150th.

Very cool
I don’t know much about anything but that rustication looks great to me.
Happy smoking!
