GBD Pipes

Currently browsing around some more affordable pipe options to add some variety to the rotation. I see there are quite a few GBD Pipes shared in the "What're you smoking" threads, and wanted to hear some thoughts on them or how they may stack up to other similar priced pipes (Stanwell, entry-level Petersons, etc).

My current collection is small: a Savinelli and a Radice, and various MMs. Looking for a little representation outside of Italy. How are GBD Pipes?

I have an older bulldog with a perspex stem that I use for Latakia blends. Hasn't failed me yet. The only annoyance is the perspex gets dirty in the airway which is highly visible to all, LOL!

GBD pipes were made in both England and France. They are very good pipes in my opinion. I have several with both the silver and gold medallions. The gold was supposed to be the higher quality.

I found GBD's to be more than acceptable.

The older ones with the brass roundel were excellent pipes,the current ones not so good.
All of the brands under the under the Cagogan umbrella seem to have suffered since the 1980s

There was a lot of three older (1960's?) GBD beautys on Ebay last week that needed heavy restoration. If I had a workshop I would have bid.

and those made in England were superior to those made in France and usually are priced higher on the estate market

GBD pipes are as good as any pipe you will find.

I love my GBD pipes - both English and French (all pre-Cadogan)
You'll have to look at the estate market.

I love my Danish-era Stanwells equally.
In fact I've said in another thread that IF I were to start a collection afresh, I'll concentrate on Danish-era Stanwells (and their second lines)

I have several older GBD pipes, a pot with a perspex stem and two 9438s -- all are good smokers

I have many GBDs but all are older production. Great pipes and even their lower grades smoke well.

In my experience odds are that a randomly selected GBD will be a decent pipe.

I've never had any issues with my GBD Rhodesian or Tapestry collection. Those I smoke when I"m outdoors at the ranch summer or fall and they've never given me any problems. They're great pipes to have.

Love my older GBD pipes. Only had a couple bad ones out of over 50 that I've owned. The old French ones are underrated in my opinion.

I have several older GBD pipes and all are fine smokers.
