Plenty to work with there, although it will take time and close attention, and the pipe will restore

nicely too.

This 9242 ended this evening, at close to $300. I wasn't sure what to make of this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GBD-VINTAGE-Golden-Rondelle-Estate-Pipe-STUNNING-FAT-CHUBBY-RARE-SHAPE-j1-/251615011215?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=PFxJlfv%252FZVyIkuJj3xxl4IRtpnI%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
It is in really nice condition but the stamping is "Made In England" (straight line vs. the Cadogan era circular style). It has a metal rondel but I have never seen the "Made in England" stamp before. The button looks like a very old GBD. Additionally the seller was the infamous "shinypipes", which gave me pause as well.

I figured you would wind up with that one. Given the sellers reputation (or infamy) as well as the button and the stamp gave me pause, I bid well below half the final selling price. I think some my GBD seconds have stamps like that, but not any actual GBDs. Also the button seems older than what I've seen on most New Standards, of course I'm far from an expert.
Even with all the warning bells, I was sorely tempted.

Congrats! Finding that one special pipe you've been hunting for, then the anticipation while waiting for it. Then you get the box... And open it. There it is, in all it's glory. The holy grail. I to have a soft spot for The classic GBD's. The quality and craftsmanship rival any of the top end pipes. I've recently acquired two of my holy grails. A Savinelli Autograph, and a Dr Grabow Emperor. ejames was kind enough to let this rare gem out of his collection. That's two off my bucket list in one month!

Congrats on that GBD Al! Very happy for you.
Additionally the seller was the infamous "shinypipes", which gave me pause as well.
They are not to be trusted, that is for sure.

Well,a Virgin grade 9242 DID finally show up on Ebay and in decent but un-restored condition. I know some of you were watching this one. I was only a spectator and hoping it would be won by someone here? I think this is a record for a 9242 on eBay:

To be honest, for smoking, I prefer the shape and size of the 9438 to the 9242.

Yep, $610. I bought something far more modest from that collection.
