I finished this 584S New Standard this morning, and it will soon be on it's way to the collection of forum member Scrooge.
I had never seen the 584 shape before and I could only find a pair sold by Coopersark in 2008. It is similar to the more common 549 GBD.
The full restoration details in the link, with before & after pix below.

Enjoy Scrooge!

Nice job, Al.

I have a GBD with a tapered stem much like this one with a chunkier bowl. I may have a pic to show, it's also rather uncommon.

I'm enjoying the threads here very much, lot's of great info and people.

Happy Easter
Dan

Is the "S' for small or is it a standard size? Looks just like a 549 to me...

Nice resto either way!

Bonehed - I've had that Seventy-Six mislabeled, it came up in my search for a 584, it is really a 548 (I edited the title).
@jpm: I did a "stain wash", basically a stain wipe down to blend the faded areas. Then of course, a white diamond polish and carnuba wax application.

Al:
Your early work showed nothing but respect for the GBD rondel on the stem. Yet the area around it still showed the greening of an aging stem. (IIRC, you were using a smudge of Vaseline, correct?)
What is your work around these days? This GBD decal is perfect as is everything else.

P.S. Lovely job, BTW.

Shown with #206.
I've restored both of them and are both great smoking pipes. The 206 needed a rondell replaced which Mike Myers did for me. I gave him an old rondell reharvested from a broken gbd stem. Note the 584's chubby bowl.
