Yes I live in England. I've tried Westmorland Slices and really enjoyed it. I've always wondered why Gawith don't sell Westmorland and some of the Plugs in America. Maybe it's because they can't keep up with the demand for the stuff they sell already, without adding new blends?
I’ve wondered about this too. It may be that American tastes have changed recently and the sales just weren’t there previously or maybe they just didn’t think it was profitable or ... who knows.

I wish it was different. I’d love to have more plugs and blends available. INSERT VERY SUBTLE HINT HERE IF SOMEONE IS READING THIS.

Not really up to GH. If the US importer wanted it, they could order it, or at least they could before the FDA, etc. regulations. In the UK, GH has its own distribution system. In addition to tobacco products, they also import, for example, Stanwell pipes and wholesale them to shops. But everywhere else in the world, they deal only with importers/distributors. Chris Gawith is well aware that things they make that the distributor in the US doesn’t order are in fact in demand here. There isn’t one thing he can do about it.

Going back to the question posed in the thread about differences between SG and GH, provided there is a lot of overlap between the two I would say the 3 differences which can be found are: 1. SG are mainly Va or Va/Per while often GH includes Burley or sun cured leaf which means they can bend more toward Va\Bur. 2. GH are generally easier to light up and keep light. 3. Casing and aromatization can take a more front seat in GH than on SG.
As said differences are mainly subtle and I love both.

I have been smoking their products for years. I have always liked their twists and some of the plugs. The traditional stuff like RB Plug is fine, Cannon Plug doesn't do anything for me and the same for Kendal Plug. I don't find either of the plugs as hard pressed as Condor, Warrior whilst their twists I have always found esthetically pleasing to the eye and nose.

I've been a fan or SG for quite a while and recently have added several GH flake offerings. I'd say, read the reviews on GH Brown Flakes and if they say light Lakeland essence, then not to worry. I never experienced a lakeland flavoring and fid that as long as it is light, it's no worry at all. Have to say, I prefer GH flakes across the board.

Do you live in the UK? Westmorland Slices from GH&Co (not released in the states) has a similar vibe... not identical but definitely similar. I really wish they would release that one here.
This is my favorite one. It’s very similar if not identical to Synjeco Bad Nun which I consider my favorite tobacco. I smoked them both back to back and I couldn’t pick up a difference but there might be a small variation I didn’t pick up on.

At some point I will order the Synjeco flakes/plugs/ropes/twists made by Gawith but I’ve been putting it off. Spending way too much lately, though most of it is going into the cellar. There’s just something about the thought of a 250g block of tobacco though...

Yeah it’s expensive and the shipping is a killer. I’m waiting for the next 10% off sale and hopefully a little more economic security before pulling the trigger on another order.

I know. Plus I just ordered from Estervals for the first time. Let’s face it, I don’t need to order from Synjeco but...and sometimes sales are worse!

My favourite pipe tobacco is the Gawith Hoggarth Cherry Vanilla - very good in my clay!

@halfdan : I watched your videos. Thats a very nice churchyard you filmed them in. You might want to slow down your puffing on the clay otherwise the pipe will glow in the dark. Try slow gentle draws on the pipe, tamp the tobacco occasionally with a pipe tool. If you don't have a pipe tamp/tool I'll post you one on Monday. Smoking a pipe is meant to be relaxing chum and not an olympic challenge to see if your tongue is made of asbestos and how much tobacco you can burn through! Have a nice weekend Dan.

Thanks mate - I really enjoyed my Captain Black!
The churchyard is St. Peter & Paul, Old Brampton, about a couple of miles from where I live in Chesterfield.
Still getting used to the clay pipe and thanks for your offer of the pipe tool.

I was a GH man, tons of Dark Flake and a substantial amount of their Brown and Black rope. The latter took some time getting used to, but when I got it, I loved it, a barrage of flavors.

I never smoked SG rope but doubt there is much difference, the recipes probably,y 200 years old.

Bracken comes and goes according to the season, and SG also likes to change up recipes without a by-your-leave. It's dangerous to like it.
