Gawith Hoggarth Shag Tobaccos -- Impressions?

I have a jar of Dark Birdseye at hand, It's an easy uncomplicated, fairly strong and straightforward smoke, but I prefer to use it for mixing to jack up the strength in other, lighter blends.

I had not thought of using it for that. I could see using it to jack up a mild burley maybe.

Kendal is the town in the Lake District where GH is located.

And also the home of the all-important food group, the Kendal Mint Cake !

Kendal Kentucky is a strong tobacco. The only person I know who really like it was Jim Inks.

I've had Dark Birdseye, Kendal Dark, Kendal Mixed. Mixed was the lightest of the bunch but still excellent. It took a while for me to appreciate Kendal Dark but now I like it nearly a much as DBE.

And I know its out there in left field, but I really want to try Kendal Banana. I hope Laudisi imports it.

I don’t think the various Kendal Banana, Blueberry, menthol, etc are n the current Laudisi import list. I think recent changes in the laws in the UK regarding “roll up” tobacco may have caused their demise there. Not sure about that last part.

I think you're right, I've never seen those flavored Kendal shags on US sites.

I think you're right, I've never seen those flavored Kendal shags on US sites.

They were regular imports under the Kretek/Phillips and King and Arango distribution eras, but I haven’t seen them since Laudisi became the importer.

The Nougat is actually surprisingly good. It’s an aromatic in the American tradition that but has a bit of oomph. If you ever get the chance to try the Blueberry, definitely do that but I don’t think it’s currently available I think he US. Also, G&H now has flavor sprays available which you can order from the UK. They work well with the shags. I have 3 but haven’t tried them yet.

Will do. Have had them for a while but they’ve just been sitting there. I ordered some Falcons from GQ Tobacco and added them to the order on a lark. I was surprised by liking the Kendal Blueberry shag and wanted to try the Cherry Vanilla so ordered this two flavors. They were out of Cherry vanilla but kindly sent a bottle of Cherry and one of Vanilla without charging for the extra bottle. High class outfit!

I'm a big fan of GQ, they've always sorted any issues for me with the absolute minimum of hassle.

Rich Dark Honeydew is another interesting G&H ready rubbed/shag.

I really didn't like it but was interested to know what people used to get from old Gallahar's version.

I come up with these without the use of drugs... and now you know why no one has ever thought it would be a good idea to try to get me to try them.

I've smoked quite a bit of Birds Eye and a few of the Kendals. I keep large amounts of Birds Eye on hand, but I don't keep any Kendal at all.

I went through a phase where I explored almost all pipe tobaccos flavored with vanilla. GH's version of a vanilla Kendal was where I stopped. It was the worst vanilla ever, and I didn't want to try any more, because I felt like the bar was set so high, that if another blend was worse than that, I could live more comfortably not knowing about it.

Order arrived this morning & I've only had the one smoke of each. Blueberry was a good call - it's really good (a shade behind the coconut, rum, & coffee I think), not overstated, but it really compliments the brightness.

The peach is not as good, on first smoke - but that might just be me - I don't like orange much as a topping & this is in the same flavour profile.

Neither is flat out horrible & I might order the blueberry again.
