I bought a sampling of their Coniston Cut Plug and Brown Flake Scented some time back because I wanted to experience some of the more heavily scented traditional English tobaccos, but I have to admit that the flavoring/scent is different than anything I've tried before and not all that easy to adjust my tastebuds to. What stands out most - OK, what JUMPS out - is the strong rose flavoring/aroma, which gives the tobaccos the "soapy taste" that smokers comment on. These will probably never be my favorite smokes, but I sometimes like to test my mettle and smoke a small bowl of them.
Because the rose (and probably other botannicals in them) is so strong and so markedly absent from other blends, they ghost my pipes pretty heavily. I don't smoke them enough to dedicate a pipe to just those two, and it takes several bowls of more typical English blends to get the rose out of the pipe.
In all fairness, P&C does say up front that these aren't for the novice smoker. I generally love bold flavors, and that was what made me buy them, but they sure are world's apart from any other tobaccos I've tried.

I'm fond of this flavoring in some candies that I have lying around, but have yet to experience it in these tobaccos.
Needless to say I can't wait to get my hands on some. I'll bump the two you mentioned to the top of my must buy list. Thanks!

Just a quick follow up post - I've found that a tiny (and I do mean tiny) bit of either of these added to other English blends can add a really pleasant complexity, and gives them an entirely different personality.

Thank you for the offer but I'll have to decline. If I don't know what it is then it kind of defeats the purpose. I would like to know what blend I do or do not like.
Besides, your wife loves the smell right? lol LIGHT HER UP!

I’m going to have to try some more of the Lakeland tobaccos. I have two pipes dedicated to Lakeland blends at the moment, but I’ve mostly just smoked P&C’s Lakeland Brickle, which isn’t too intense, and Bob’s Chocolate Flake, my tin was pretty mild, but it supposedly can vary. I absolutely LOVE Condor, easily one of my top five and I have a tin of Ennerdale I need to pop open at some point.

A guy gave me a couple of Gawith Hoggarth blends with that stuff in it. He gave me quite a bit of it - perhaps I should have deduced something from that. It was pretty nasty stuff. I think that I smoked about a bowl and a half and then tossed it into the trash.
Perhaps I could have taken little bits of it and put it in with other tobaccos, it was, amoung other things, how strong the effect was that turned me off. But I didn't care for the flavor nor the idea.
Really truthfully, I couldn't understand what they were attempting to achieve.

The floral scent does dissipate over time. The strongest is Ennerdale Flake or RB Plug. Good stuff but it will ghost your pipe like nobody's business.

I tried Grousemoor and it was the strangest and most aweful tobacco I've tried to date. I'm guessing it falls into the category you guys are speaking of.

Grousemoor, I do smoke every once in awhile. The soapy taste is somewhat intriging and mysterious to me. 1 tin will last a year though.

I love this stuff!

It might be hard for we Americans to understand this, but these Lakeland "floral" blends are traditional British aromatics and have been around far longer than American aros flavored with vanilla, maple, cherry, etc.

Many traditional British candies and desserts were flavored with rose, lavender, and other similar flavors, so the British didn't think "soap" when they smoked something like this. It tasted like dessert to them, in much the same way a vanilla aromatic would seem like dessert to us. Many of the classic British OTC (drugstore) blends like Condor and St. Bruno's have similar flavorings added to them, as well.

Personally, I think this type of aromatic makes far more sense than some of the others. A tobacco plant has a lot more in common with, say, a rose plant than it does with a Christmas cooke!

Some of these blends have been around for 200 years, so they should be at least shown some respect.

I have been buying up more than a few of the GH and SG tobacco offerings and the Lakeland type stuff is a bit of a strange taste at first.

These are nothing like the American aromatics that I have tried.

Grousemoor is really awesome imo.

If you think yourself adventurous give these tobaccos a shot.

Oh, wait, I also have a tin of Grousemoor in my cellar. Man, I'm starting to get excited!!!
I never really think of these as soapy. To me, soapy is a bitter taste, ever have your mouth washed out with soap? I actually associate that flavor more with a lot of the latakia blends. They definitely have a floral quality that is similar to the smell of some bath bars.

I dedicate three pipes to my Lakeland scented tobaccos. They will ghost a pipe like no other tobacco I have ever smoked. I do enjoy them on occasion and they are certainly quality tobaccos. The ones I stock are GH Ennerdale and Rum Flakes, SG XX Black Twist,Firedance and Brown Rope no. 4. The SG's do not have as pronounced a Lakeland scent but it is still there.
