Thanks for the heads-up! I used to have a couple of unfinished pipes that I really enjoyed, but they ended up being lost when I divorced from my first wife. I think I know what I'm picking up the next time I go in there....

Was there a variety of shapes/sizes?

I haven't been to a B&M since high school, and back then I just went there to get nasal snuff and had no appreciation for anything else. I really have to go to a nice B&M soon.

I think they are just high for the Tennessee prices I'm used to. Our tobacco is pretty cheap compared to a lot of the country. They are very friendly and that is enough for me to shop there.

Their prices are high compared to what I'm used to paying for comparable bulk tobaccos online, but they are no higher than I am accustomed to paying at other B&Ms. The drawback is that, except for their house blends, their (very few) tinned blends are very overpriced compared to what you'll find elsewhere. But, as business owners, I can see why they do it. Bear in mind that the majority of their business is converting cigarette smoking tourists to pipes (that's been their mantra for decades now), and there's not a whole lot of new pipesters looking to buy a tin of Nightcap. Therefore, when a more experienced pipe smokers comes in and wants his favorite blend, he's going to pay tourist-trap prices for it if he really wants it bad enough or settle for a house blend, which is where I imagine they make their money. It doesn't bother me, I guess, because as someone from this area I'm used to merchants doing this, because I love the shop, and because I know what the overhead on this shop must be (in that particular mall, property is rented by the square inch rather than the square foot -- I know because my cousin was married to one of the developers). If it comes down to having a choice between having a B&M with slightly elevated prices versus a no B&M at all, I'm picking the first option every day of the week. Especially one that produces blends that have been among my favorites since I literally first picked up a briar back in '90! I'd pay twice what they charge for Smokies Smoke-Ease, for instance, because it's that unique.

I think they had only 3-4 different unfinished ones to choose from, not a big selection the day I was there at least. They may not be on their website but if you call them they will set you up; I asked about shipping while I was there and they do a lot, from what the gentleman said, for a reasonable cost.
I did notice they advertised heavily why to smoke a pipe instead of cigarettes and how to switch over. It's a good marketing idea for their location, IMO. I also agree with the Assesment of their price structure and why; I've never hear of per sq/in rental! Anyway, I liked the shop and the folks and would definitely go back if I'm in the area.

That is there seller for sure. There are a lot of cigarette smokers every time I go to Galinburg. Very smart and a good shop regardless of price.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned -- and maybe is no longer the case -- is that this shop also has (or, at least, had) a number of back issues of pipe-related magazines. Although I wasn't in the market for a pipe, and their tins were priced higher than I was willing to pay, I did end up leaving with about a half-dozen magazines.

Wow talk about a blast from the past. This is the very store that got me in to smoking pipes. I still have my little house pipe for them and smoke it while fishing..I also have a jarred 1/2lb of the mountain mall mix and arrowhead almond that are my last refuse from my last trip up there..I need to make a trip back. I've always thought the staff was very friendly and that the atmosphere was very cozy and inviting.
