Title edited for caps and brevity. Rule 9. Original:

Are there gateway-to-“English tobacco blends” that you recommend?

I’m wondering if there are blends you recommend that are good for introducing those who’ve never tried English/Latakia to this type of tobacco? Maybe something that gets you halfway there? And I seem to hear about people who’ve given up Latakia and switched to Virginias but I’m wondering if there are people who’ve gotten into English blends after smoking Virginias? Thanks!

I went from English to Virginias but, I think a good English to get into it is Match Barking Dog, and Match Revelation, Early Morning, Star of the East by C&D. I think the mildness of the Orientals or lack of in some of those appeal more to people who havent had an English. Those Oriental blends can be off putting to someone not used to it. Sometimes they have a wang. Later it becomes a tang thats nice.

Some orientals are very cigar like with floral and tea notes. My favorite is straight Yenidje.
I haven't tasted a floral note with Yenidje but I haven't had it straight. I do enjoy the floral notes though. Next time I smoke one of my blends that has it I'm gonna try to pick it out. A lot of my blends with Turkish Orientals I get a pickle smell and a tangy taste.

I bought Bothy Flake thinking this might me an introduction to Latakia. But maybe it’s just too light on the Latakia and too friendly otherwise. I mean I really like it but I’m thinking people might say it’s not really going to get my foot in the door. But I don’t know. It’s fine. Eventually I’ll just buy a mild English blend with a good review. But I thought I’d ask if people recommended a starter-upper. I’m in Japan so it’s not like I can get my hands on anything obscure anyway. I can get SG’s Skiff Mixture. Or Early Morning pipe. Dan pipe stuff or Peterson or some Solani.
Also: do you smoke English blends wetter? Or can you? Or is it the same as Virginias in that regards?

See if you can get Stokkebye or Arango Balkan Supreme.

Bayou Mornings has that smell too now that I think about it. I always thought it was the Turkish. But yeah Super Value has Virginia. I smoke cigarettes too and it has Virginia I know it's not the same but Virginia didn't cross my mind because of that.
Cigarettes often have bright Virginias. They're more hay and grass. The red Virginias are vinegar, ketchup, and barbecue sauce.

Skiff Mixture and Early Morning Pipe are both mild. Anything with Latakia will do. If you like mild one, you will love strong one until they just overpowers you.
