I find Gaslight and Quiet Nights to sort of be two sides of the same coin. Gaslight is dense while Quiet Nights is broad. Gaslight is mysterious while Quiet Nights is gregarious. Gaslight seems to emphasize the oriental and latakia interplay while Quiet Nights emphasizes the broader range, including bright VAs. I like them both, but for my tastes, Gaslight works better.
This is strange because I love Blackpoint, which was the starting point for Quiet Nights. Quiet Nights was described when under development as Blackpoint Flake, and then it was going to be Nocturne, and then I think there was a dispute about it sharing a name, so it became Quiet Nights.
I don't agree that Quiet Nights is under-recognized. Whenever questions of Penzance substitutes come up, Quiet Nights is always mentioned. I think Lagonda and especially Meridian are the real quiet ones there. I've not had Lagonda, but Meridian is about the finest medium latakia mixture I can think of.

I'll be trying this one out soon. If I like it, I will probably smoke through the whole tin on my drive to Arkansas.

In my experience, a whole tin of Gaslight would last something like 30 hours of smoldering. Even small pipefuls turn into an hour with this thing.

Gaslight is the gassiest gas.

I really enjoy the ritual too of a living off a piece and preparing it to smoke.

I also like to take it with me, so I rubbed out a bit and put it in my pouch.

I don't care for latakia after it's gone out. It gets ashy and gnarly to me. Your mileage may vary.

This magical blend we call Gaslight does not fare well whithe the DGT. But once you try it, you may not put it down till the bowl is near empty. I like to rest a good VA, in the pipe from time to time- this one not so much- I find that I FIND excuses to finish the bowl- hell or high water!

aept1- you are are treading on thin ice here- Gaslight will put you under its spell!

I'm very much a fan of GLP. Theres only one outlet here in England for it, Gauntleys of Nottingham. Still managed to bag myself tins of Chelsea Morning, which I adore, Sextant, ditto and Maltese Falcon/ Union Square, which are sat next to me on the desk at work, just waiting for the right time to break the seal.
I would love to try Gaslight, and Meridian (as I live in Greenwich), as well as quiet Nights and, for the difference Barbary Coast, but they just are not available. Ho hum. I guess my holiday to California in 2015 will have to take in a tobacconist or two...

I haven't tried Gaslight yet. I do have a bunch in the cellar though. Anythoughts as to whether it has significant aging potential? I do tend to prefer smooth, aged, Lat blends to the young ones.

Peck, I see no reason why a little age wouldn't mellow all that Latakia and I've jarred a plug and a half and have an unopened tin stashed as well. I smoked several bowls fresh from the tin and now I'll wait till years end to see what a little time does for it. I love it just the way it is but heavy lay blends are just not doing it for me in this summer heat.

I smoked some Gaslight a month ago and didnt care for it. My wife did however so I sealed it up and gave it to her. Of course she doesnt smoke a pipe often, mostly grabbing a puff off mine from time to time. Anyway after reading this thread I decided to give it another go. It smells great! But smoking it leaves me far from satisfied. Just my experience.

Its going back to the wife's stash or for trade or gifting somewhere along the line.
