My wife and I joined a community garden this year and have our own 4x20 plot. We are growing green beans, purple potatoes, and sunflowers. My wife and a new garden friend are also in charge of two smaller community plots where they are growing a mix of perennial and annual herbs. The sunflowers are just starting to bloom. The potatoes have been the most fun as we've mounded up as much as our plot allows and they have been going crazy. A few years ago we grew sugar snap peas and they grew much quicker than our green beans. The green beans also seem to like to climb on the vertical posts more the the string we stretched horizontally, so we have to rectify that this week. I'm not a green thumb by any means, but this has certainly been a fun experience. Here are a few pics from earlier today.

I've been eating grape tomatoes for a couple of weeks...

I may have to learn about amending my soil, I have tomatoes and potatoes that are "splitting" and I don't recall that problem in the past.

Perhaps something in my watering cycle or methods...?

Tomatoes and Cantelope or Honeydew melons are always my main focus. I then change up annually between Okra, Squash, Zuccuni, Green Beans, Peppers. For winter I grow garlic and onions, and spinach.

My first pumpkin. That's a good sign. Hopefully, I'll get a few more.

Soon you'll have to watch out for the dreaded little "squash" bugs. Look like miniature left-overs from the days of the dinosaurs and stink when you squash them. I never found a good solution to eliminate them. I had a season without any, and at least one where they "got it all".

Thanks for the heads up. I check on the plants everyday.

Iv been fighting that battle on the cucumbers this year. Unfortunately I went away for 6 days and it looks like they took that opportunity to do some damage.

On the bright side, I came back and the tobacco plants are almost all flowering and large.

Grape tomatoes are early, this year we have them, they are early. I don’t count them as real tomato because I stuff them in my mouth every time I pass by and see some red ones. They don’t make their way into the kitchen.
