G.H. Zhang Pipes

After watching this Smokingpipes video, I decided to have a look at their offering of G.H. Zhang factory-made pipes. The pipes, which are the brainchild of G.H. Zhang and Ping Zhan, are carved on CNC machines to designs by Zhan, Cornelius Manz, J. Alan, Sergey Aileron, Dirk Heinemann and David Huber. The stummels are hand finished and polished and the stems are handcut. Other brands, like Stanwell, have factory-made pipes designed by artisans, so this is not new. But the precision with which the original design has been copied and the caliber of execution is excellent. The artisans apparently get royalties on the pipes sold with their design. Because these pipes are made in China, the price is excellent for what you get.

This blowfish, designed by J. Alan, is absolutely beautiful. The fit and finish is superb, it feels great in hand and smokes as well as any pipe I have. Well worth the money in my opinion.

I really like this line of pipes, several interesting shapes at an affordable price.

Normally I don't like the blowfish shape but this pipe is beautiful!

I've been looking at getting one but nothing has caught my eye yet, though those smooth Ping 03s are close.

I haven't seen a way to shop direct. I think your best bet is to buy from SP.com.

Just scooped up one of these. Liked the look and the price was certainly right for an unsmoked specimen.
Dig the octogonal shank and triangular panelish bowl. Different.

I own five GH Zhang pipes. They are outstanding. The very best part is the stem work. All made by hand and executed at a level equal to most artisan carvers. I just added this one to my collection. This is one of Guohui’s own designs. Essentially a long shank apple or an apple lovat, so this Dragon line leans into classic shapes. Five claw grade on this one.

The pipes look great and I’d love to own one someday as they’ll be the closest I can get to the real thing.

The architect from Dirk Heinemann has been tempting me but I’ve been able to resist so far.

If they ever do a grain bug, I’ll cave.
