How does the G&H Dark Plug compare in taste and strength to SG Cob plug? Reason is because I do have and enjoy the Cob Plug and wondering if the Dark Plug is different enough to justify its addition to my collection. Also I am fine with nic content of Cob plug but probably I would not go stronger than that in nic dept so also a comment on nic would be appreciated

Haven’t had the GH&Co Dark Plug, but it sounds by reviews to be close to their Dark Flake SRP-strong mix of dark and virginias that they do so well, with a not-overpowering Lakeland floral essence.
Samuel Gawith Cob Plug, is also strong va.dark burley done very well, but with tonquin essence, rather than the floral Lakeland.

Cob is the plug version of SG 1793 Flake, perhaps Dark Plug is the unsliced Dark Flake Aromatic. If it is, I’d say nic level is would be about the same, and a step below GH&Co’s Brown Twist.

They are not at all comparable.

Dark Plug has the oily Imperial Virginias, think thick mouthfeel and sweetish, relatively strong in nic but nowhere near Cob Plug, which is a Dark Fired Kentucky bomb with tonquin. Both are great but totally different.

I haven’t had the aromatic variety of Dark Plug, I’d love to get some of that, as Dark Flake Scented is among my top 5 Gawith blends.

unfortunately Dark Plug Scented (aromatic) was discontinued a couple of years ago

Oh well! Thanks for confirming! But Dark FLAKE Scented is still being made it seems, and where there's a flake a plug has been. The new(ish) management seems to embrace the buyers' apetite for the rarer forms (plugs and ropes) so I'd imagine it wouldn't be all that hard to offer the plug version again (and it's burnt ends ;))

SG 1793 is indeed the sliced up version of Cob Plug. Strange as it may seem I have never been keen on either of these tobacco offerings. I have lord knows how many jars of Cob Plug from the late 1990s when it was packaged in that silver wrapper. Since new management have had control of the place I have no idea what they are up to and I half expect them to launch a Bazooka Joe flavored plug at any moment. Reading this piece has inspired me to slice up some Dark Plug scented from 2010 right now. You might want to try Dark Flake and thinly sliced Brown Twist mixed 50/50 for a full on nicotine butt rush!

So looking on the blend composition looks like Dark Plug might be more similar to Bosun Plug, stronger in taste and nic. Anyone who smoked both for a comparison?

They are also nothing alike. Dark Plug tastes more like rope than anything else. But really it is its own thing. Nothing like it.
