Both Pipestud and BriarBlues are indeed icons.
Mike, you may not remember this, but last year I traded a Sav Autograph for a Stanwell 63M, although you nudged that you were getting the better end of the deal, I couldn't be happier, that Stanny has been great, but I felt kind of guilty that that Sav sat around for so long in your shop --- btw, you're one of the only sellers I know who lists previous tobaccos used in estate pipes --- I check your site often.
As for future icons,
I'll wager on Roger Wallenstein, possibly the craziest pipemaker in the world, making shapes nobody else could have dreamed of, as well as elegant engineering solutions to accommodate unorthodox shapes.
...and he's already inspired a "school" of sorts, looking thru this gallery is pretty amazing to see the diversity and innovation of designs, you can see his influence at work with some of the makers...
