It's amazing how my taste will change when it comes to tobacco. There are times when all I crave are super moist flavorful vanillas, cherry's and other aromatics. I won't touch a Latakia to save my life... however, the other night I packed my favorite Ser Jacopo with a GL Pease Westminster. Packed it... held it but didn't light it at first. I just held the pipe and would occasionally smell the aroma of the Latakia in the bowl. After about an hour, I stepped out onto my porch (calm air) and lit a match.. touched it ever so gently to the tobacco and wow!!! As the smoke would waft up I just took it in. And now all I want is Latakia! I love my pipes and just thought I'd share this little moment from the other night.

Trying new things is all part of the pipe experience. Lots of guys make the journey the same way you have.

Rather than change, my tastes have been evolving, from aromantics, to straight baccies, like Dunhill Flakes and so forth. I've even broken down and bought a couple of cobs! (I hope I can live the latter down, but I have to find some way of letting the briars rest--I simply can't buy 40 briar pipes.)

My tastes have evolved to the point where I pretty much like a little of everything now. I've been back on aromatics for the last week or so, and this morning...back on a VA. Enjoying it all...

It's not uncommon to go back and forth when it comes to tobacco. My tastes change weekly. I've had a love, hate relationship with latakia. Right now I've been enjoying Frog Morton On the Bayou, latakia with perique. Next week, who knows?

Can't say I'm the back and forth type. Since "turning to the dark side," I've only smoked the occassional VA/Pers, which I will say I'm enjoying more, and the rare aromatic. Six of my eight dedicated pipes are for latakia blends. Latakia is practically the reason I smoke now. If nothing else, it's interesting to see how things turn out in each individual case-I never saw this happening when I was enjoying the local "Scotch Mixture" and "Dolce Vita!"

Do not worry! The concept of pipe smoking is to try different blends and settle on a main tobacco blend while still trying others. Often I think that I have found my main smoke only to move my primary smoke to another blend. That is one of the things that is great about pipe smoking is the adventure.

My tastes are always changing. I went from nothing but aromatics to nothing but latakia blends. Now I find latakia blends somewhat tiresome. Now I smoke mainly Virginias, Vapers and Burleys (flakes and loose blends) with a couple of aros. I am sure I'll like latakia blends again someday. Maybe I'll even like some off the blends I currently hate like 1792. You never know.

Yes, Mr. Pease does tobacco right. There are times that I can't believe how good his blends are.

My tastes have evolved over the years and I have now settled on strictly Va, Vaper and Vabur Flakes. When I began it was mostly English and Vapers, then I found Va flakes that did not bite me( no red virginia's). Last summer I dabbled in aromatics but found the PG dried my mouth something fierce. I think it takes time and experimentation to figure out what we like best, the journey is the fun part, we find some winners and we find some losers, but eventually we get to where our tastes take us. Some guys love all the categories and I envy them, the variety they have at their disposal is awesome. Sometimes what was a favorite is now something we cannot smoke( English blends in my case)tastes do change over the years and there is nothing wrong with it.

This is my first half year of smoking a pipe.
All summer long all I ever wanted was aromatics, aromatics, and more aromatics.
Now that Fall has settled in on the Portland Oregon suburbs, I can't stand aromatics anymore.
All I want is burleys, and English blends.
Funny that.

I used to try blends with Latakia every couple of years and hated the experience every time. Me and Latakia just do not get along so I gave up trying. I'll stick to my Va & Vapers with some aro's thrown in. No more experimenting.
