Been finding some fun ebay scams last few days, and not by any intent on my part. Just following the links that pop up in the "similar too" area.

Selling the same dunhill bent bulldog as two seperate items. It only really came out as obvious when i I made an offer on one, and was sent a offer rejection for EACH of the listings.

eBay is a dangerous place at this point
At the very least it’s a headache with disputes and coordination with third world reps and AI powered systems
At worst it’s straight theft and eBay sides with a corrupt seller
I stay away from eBay and it’s not a surprise that it’s a failing platform
It’s really a shame because at one point it was a vibrant and capitalist forward marketplace

Ive never had an issue with ebay. I often go there to save on shipping costs. But im very careful which vendors I use. I just recieved 30 feet of high quality 550 cord for under $6.
I have no idea how the guy makes money. It got to me in 4 days.

.50 cents per foot. some flavors are less then 6$ per 100 ' roll

Yeah I definitely feel bad for people who have had bad ebay experiences but I cannot say I ever have. Even when I sold a few things.. had a woman try to claim I never sent her a television and pull her money after signature accepting a tracked delivery lmao.. had to open a dispute but they always favored me.
Gunbroker, on the other hand... 🤬 lol

Half the things on gun broker that are worth buying, are normally already sold.

Once found a really nice PPC revolver on gunbroker, funny thing is it wouldnt let me buy it. Had to get into contact with the listed seller, that turned out to be a pawn shop in new jersey that didnt sell guns of any kind.

I only wanted specific lengths of specific patterns for knife lanyards. I probably have well over 1000 feet of cord around the house, but none of what I wanted.
The thing with paracord is the less you want, the more expensive it is sometimes.
$5.40 for multiple lengths of multiple patterns is ridiculously inexpensive.
Buying 100 feet for $6 is how I ended up with hundreds of useless feet.
I tie and sell lanyards as a hobby on blade forums. Im making $6-$10 for every 2 feet I tie depending on the bead used.

Yeah at risk of thread derailment.... lol:
Basically I bought some ammo (at a crazy generous price) then went to pay for it and the seller (who right on the listing said accepted cards) actually didn't. You had to go through his own private website and like email/call him with your card info, not GB to pay him (probably to skim off GB's end) I thought it was a little fishy so I was hesitant.. messaged him about it.

The purchase took place on Thurs evening and the messaging went through Friday. His description (not GB's policy) requested payment in 3 business days (I checked). Okay so that means by Monday 5pm I should be fine.. actually many would say Tues because Thurs purchase was after 5pm...

I had a busy weekend but was planning on paying Monday by lunch.. Sunday morning I get an email rudely demanding payment by end of the day or deal will be revoked and reported. Literally not 60 seconds later I get another email that was done. Tried contacting him back, rude and pissy. Gunbroker, well they have no phone number. Or at least didn't back then (now I see why)... only customer service is through email. They perma-banned my account and refused to do any meaningful review... always side with the sellers only no matter what.

My account was 100% positive feedback with almost a dozen prev positive purchases of guns and ammo. Even emailed and subbed to a YT channel of a gentleman I bought a K31 from haha. I've had gentlemen trust me to come back/mail them with cash after only putting down a deposit and walking out with a rifle and have done it everytime and with much gratitude. To me a deal is my reputation.

TLDR: But to bring it back around again lmaooo, short story long, I have not experienced that kind of discrimination and terrible service with ebay. Always had my disputes go my way as a seller and buyer, cause there was always proof I was in the right which they actually took the time to review. And they even have a great return policy. I'm genuinely sorry tho if someone got shafted by them because (as per TLDR) I def know how that feels as well.

As an FFL, I deal with places like Gunbroker, Guns dot com, Grab A Gun, Buds, Sportsman Warehouse Shoot Smart....
Some are better than others, but Gunbroker is a hassle all the way around. Because unlike when buying new, where you can send defective firearms back to the manufacturer yourself. EVERY transaction on GB has to go through an FFL. From buyers remorse, to defective products, and returns for any reason must go through an FFL.

Maybe I've had good luck, but I've had mostly good experiences both buying and selling on ebay.
Most established sellers seem to be forthright about fixing any problems that arise. Many of the sketchy ones can be spotted if you know what to look for. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Out of several hundred sales, I've only had a handful of problem buyers that tried to lie and scam me. Ebay always sided with me, and they tend to heavily favor buyers in these disputes. There are some situations where it's an open and shut case in favor of the seller.

The one bad thing I will say is that the selling fees can be ridiculous. They take such a large cut that it can be very difficult to make any money. Fortunately I just use the platform to offload my unwanted items.

I think it ends up being about 13%. Pretty high in my opinion... but I still sell a pipe or 2 on there now and again.

I was selling chicken eggs (for hatching) on Ebay for a few days...

Even selling the eggs for 40 bucks a dozen I couldn't make money after fees and shipping.

It blew my mind.

I don't know if who's worse, the post office or Ebay.

I planned to revist the idea, but I never have.

I saw how much theyre charging lately it's insane. It's like 3-4x what the percentages were when I sold stuff.. little over a decade ago
