Funky Vintage Syroco Pipe Rest

Came across this funky vintage pipe rest on eBay today. Of course, I was on my laptop while smoking a pipe in my recliner at the time, so I had to chuckle at the irony. I didn't bid on it; but, I thought I'd share the pics here. - Sherm Natman

Nah... I am already overloaded with racks, stands, and rests. It turns out that Syroco made tons of different funky sculpted pipe stands and rests. I am looking over a bunch of them now, I kind of like the Race Horse themed ones. Definitely funky-cool stuff. Who knew! - Sherm Natman

I had no idea Syroco made so many things for pipe smokers. I'm having a blast searching "Syroco Pipe" and finding tons of these vintage "Artifacts" on the cheap. - Sherm Natman

Makes sense, in the days where about every dad smoked a pipe, if you couldn't give him a pipe on fathers day, you could always give him a rest

I love the themes: Dogs, Horses, Lounging about, being waited on... I wonder if I'll find a sculpted pipe rest of a buxom blonde holding a tray of beer... might as well complete the picture of a perfect Dad World!

Lots of Nautical and Sea Captains too, for those of us who are still smoking Black Frigate and Blockade Runner, or, London Dock. - Sherm Natman

I see the chair ones pop up at junktique shops occasionally. A few years ago my wife saw two of them in a locked case. The one that was the same color as the photo was $20. The other one was painted gold and they wanted $35 for it. I asked about the difference and was told because it was "gold plated".

If it was, they forgot to "gold plate" the bottom.

Syroco made all manor of decorative "Stuff" - like 3D wall scuptures, candle holders, trinket shelves, etc - for the home out of resin. IIRC, it was sold at in-home presentations like a Tupperware Party. Very 60s/70s. - Sherm Natman

The chair. There’s just something I find really comical and enjoyable about the idea of a pipe on a lounger.

You know what also made my laugh, is that the curvature to hold the bowl in place, reminded me of my friend from High School dad's Lazy-Boy recliner... which had the same permanent butt-depression in it - even when his dad wasn't at home - just like the pipe rest - Sherm

Lovely! I found these Syroco stands in two different antique shops. I think I need some end tables to complete the living room!

The place where I got the chair stand has the horse and dog one too. I don’t display pipes, so I don’t need it, but I look at it every freaking time!
