Fun Blending Your Own

I have two that are winners. Both have hard to find ingredients though. One is called Witching Hour (not my recipe) and the other is called Red Wine Soup.

I have a simple 1 to 1 blend that I have turned to as an everyday smoke. I call it TuggleBudd.
One part Tuggle Hall to one part Billy Budd. Tuggle Hall is a straight forward old time blend without the nuances oriental leaf which tames the excellent Billy Budd that can be a tad strong, especially approaching the bottom of the bowl.

Smoked a home-blend last night that was pretty good. 40% stoved virginia, 30% red virginia cavendish and 30% latakia (all blending tobaccos)

Be careful what you're doing, sir. You add some FVF to a lesser blend and it'll get mixed in and become just another tobacco. Which it is.

I sometimes add Dark Bird’s Eye to bump the DFK presence in lighter blends, but more often than not it is not a BLEND, it is a MIX like @mso489 said, and usually inferior than both starting tobaccos. I also tried a 1:1 mix of Old Dark Fired with Black XX like @Chasing Embers said he does and could clearly tell when i was smoking either of them, overall unpleasant for me, so I stopped doing it. I have a huge appreciation of BLENDERS

For some reason I thought putting some Wilke 515 in a low temp oven for a bit would be a good idea. I kind of forgot I did and it came out pretty darn dry, lol, so I “blended” it 50/50 with the stuff right out of the jar. I figured what the heck. Turned out to be the longest, most satisfying bowl I’ve enjoyed in my one Peterson. Probably dumb but there it is.

I some times enjoy C&D's white burley mixed with a bit of their izmir Turkish.

Glad you brought up C&D's Izmir because I think it is fantastic. Wonderful straight, or mixed in lightly with Virginias and latakia and a pinch of perique for a solid English mixture.

And then last night I tried a fairly even 50/50 mix (by volume: didn't weigh it) of C&D's Derringer (a straight Virginia) aged 10 months in the jar with the Izmir, and it transported me to Tobacco Nirvana.

Honestly, I think if you are going to blend, while there really shouldn't be any rules, to me it seems best to keep it simple and use only blending tobaccos and skip the fancy stuff that the big blenders do. Of course, that comes with the disclaimer that I absolutely love the natural taste of naked and unadulterated tobacco.

Now to get some of their burley ...

I have had a couple hit or miss experiments - my keeper blend is my 'almost English' - 50gr each of Sutliff 515 RC-1, C&D Izmir, Sutliff 507-S, and Low Country Natural Virginia ...nothing 'mind blowing' but a solid blend, great for the commute/smokes nicely.
