Big Government and Big Business are so tangled up with one another that it makes no sense to treat either one in isolation. Generally speaking, neither entity gives a rip about our hobby or our rights.

This issue is beyond political parties or ideology - its a collusion between Big gov't and big business that dictates our very lives. One could almost say it's capitalism run amok.

Gentlemen, I would humbly suggest that terms like "capitalism" and "communism" really aren't the best terms for understanding the political challenges we face as pipe smokers.

A discussion fraught with broad terms never really gets to the crux of an issue.

The amount of money that pours into re-election funds (for both parties) from K Street is embarrassing.

Credit card processing companies have been doing things like this for a while now. I have seen this done with a few smaller online cigar retailers. I would not suspect Boswell's of being dishonest about this. He very well may be able to fine another company who would take his business, but when will they just arbitrarily dump him? And what rates would they change him? I hope this works out for them

I personally would never buy from a vendor that wanted cheques rather than a credit card or paypal. No doubt this will hurt their sales
I dont really think it will hurt that much. I would be willing to bet that a large number of their customers are returning customers. I would have no problem sending in a check to them. I have 9 Boswell pipes and love them more than any of my others.
What will suck is ordering, sending check..waiting for them to get and clear, then sending pipes. Will take about two weeks now vs call and have two days later.

Whether government takes over the corporations or the corporations take over government, the end result is the same: organized crime.

Boswells can easily change their CC processor and continue to take CC's. They are choosing not to pay the additional fees that places like SP,PC and 4noggins pay for their CC processors. Boswells has made a business decision and only time will tell if it was the right one. The CC processors are not stupid, they see what is happening and if they can squeeze more money from their clients, they will. I personally will not send a check to anyone for my tobacco or pipes. I want convenience from my vendors and I appreciate companies that make it as easy as possible for me to order. Those are the companies I give my business to, not a company that makes a huge deal out of a couple of points. There are costs to doing business in the modern world, companies that adapt to these changing conditions survive, others drop by the wayside.

It is a shame that writing a check is consider being difficult to do business with. I enjoy all the blends from JM and more so enjoy the personal touch of service. I am amazed that JM and his family always spend time getting to know me as a over the phone order customer. It shows how society is changing and personalized service is not appreciated and ease of doing business is related to a credit card. I will gladly send a check and continue to support and enjoy doing business with JM Boswell.
Keep up the great job Boswell's!
