Starting to Get Obsessed

I know almost nothing about cigars. I decided to get a 4 pack sampler in a “fresh pack” travel humidor to get some free shipping on a recent order. I’m thinking an occasional cigar this fall might be nice.

Two questions:

1) Is it safe to assume they will stay humidified until I open the pack?

2) How long after opening until they start to dry out?

My thought is to open and have one over Labor Day weekend. Then enjoy one over the Fall-Winter holiday seasons. Special occasions.

Thanks

Given that time frame, they may not make it...Id recommend you grab a 28g Boveda in your preferred humidity range (or just go with a 69%) and throw it in the pack, then add a ziplock freezer bag over the fresh pack and that should keep you in good shape...

1) welcome!

2) good on you for thinking ahead. Cigars like to rest for a few weeks to a few months

I'm not familiar with fresh packs, but it's safe to assume there is some sort of humidification piece in there, in a sealed environment. Therefore it's reasonable to think they will stay humidified in there for a long time.

As far as after you open them- that depends on what and how much juice the humidification technology has. Every time it "works" it loses a little, till dead

At the risk of "too much information" lemme say 2 more things:

Careful with temp- bad stuff can happen, especially in a closed environment, when temps get above 70°F

And a lot of us have learned that we prefer lower humidity levels. This can mean storing at lower levels, or even taking the cigar out of the humidified environment for hours or even days. You'd be surprised

Anyway, hope you enjoy your smokes and we see you around this side more!

Those fresh packs do a pretty good job as long as you keep them sealed, so you don’t have to worry too much at first. Once you open it, though, they’ll slowly start to lose that stable humidity.

If you’re planning to space them out over a few months, I’d just drop in a small Boveda and maybe put the whole thing in a ziplock bag. Super easy and it’ll keep them in good shape for when you’re ready to enjoy one.
