I agree nickel. It didn’t “darken” my buffer wheel. I think 1890 is a good date as well do you think this is because of the style of pipe or if it was earlier it would look different?
1880 pipes exist. They are really rare though. And they are hard to identify without a hallmark.
The push stem makes me wonder if it’s as early as 1890. But there are English pipes collectors around that know better than me about tenon trends in UK pipes.
The Comoy history matters too. I am not real conversant with that.
Agree faux. I wonder if it happened because it may be from an era where HC was transitioning countries?
I think it was a lower price option. Nickel plating was kind of hot back then. You got the nice luster without the fast tarnish.

Yes, aligns with it being a ‘second’ line. Thank you. I would agree and be more apt to put it 1905ish era, but with the France COM it just seems to fall earlier given some shared history.

Push tenons go back as far as the 1880’s, but 1890, or 1900, would be safe for an early dating. Could be later.

I was just about to post a pipe asking for help with dating, when I bumped into this thread. I have matching “hallmarks “

The stem doesn’t screw all the way in… does anyone have any idea how to fix it, as gently as possible. I see no damage or reason for it not fitting

That is heavily oxidized nickel plate. I wouldn’t be surprised if you end up with brass underneath. I’ve had a couple bands like that and what was left of the nickel departed when I cleaned it. Hopefully you’ll have better luck.
1. Are the shank and threads clean?
2. Is the tenon set into the stem as far as it should be?
