That turned out really nice! The only thing bothering me is where the stem meets the shank - maybe it could go a bit deeper?

I'm also applauding this... It's very much in the style of Karl Erik pipes, which I love.
Great grain, gnarly shape... you make it hard to believe that's a first pipe, firstwordisee
Was that from a pre-bored kit? That's what concerned me most about the process of carving, by listening to others.
And most importantly, what are you going to break her in with?

Im a big fan (as you can see if you read my new guy here post) of freehands and I think you did a fabulous job on this pipe. And it being your first pipe makes it all that much more great. I love the plateaux work and also the square shape meeting the rounded bottom. AS someone mentioned before it does remind of a Karl Erik or a Celius. Definate Danish bent huh, which are my favorites!
It makes me even more excited to get my briar blocks in the mail!
