I think I have to bow out of this forum stuff, it is just too kinky for me.

You have guys that have hundreds of pipes, and other guys that idolize him for having what amounts to being wall to wall pipes?

You have guys that spend their life's savings on pipes, and gets replies of admiration?

Now, I see that you actually have names for putting tobacco into a pipe....this is bordering on silly.

It was nice guys, but I'm out of here, this is too much for me.
Silly is someone thinking they would come to a pipe and tobacco forum and that most people would have one pipe and one tobacco and only want to talk about one pipe and one tobacco. IMO of course.

THANK YOU jankomatic for putting into words what I've been thinking for weeks.
I've been feeling that I'm the odd man out because of my multiple pipes and my preference for other-than-drugstore brands.

I've been switching to "drop tobacco into the bowl until full" and then gently top up until it "feels right" i.e. springy but not too packed. Although, this looks intriguing:
Definitely going to give this a try next time I light up a bowl.

And your the one calling everybody else crazy

I'll go back to admiring my 100's of pipes.

Come on back when you settle down some, or dont, whatever.

If you like to smoke your one pipe 12 times a day with nothing but carter hall, wouldnt bother me one bit.

If you like smoking burley and horsedung from a hollowed out walnut shell and a purple sippy straw , I really couldnt care less.

Hell, it wouldn't bother me if your pipe collection cost more than my house.

Do what you like, its got nothing to do with me.

Seems theres a lot more problems to waste my time worrying about, but hey thats just me.

As a Marine Brat, a Marine, and one who's father was a Marine Corps Drill Instructor, I can understand Ranger's mind-set. I have grown up around those who could be considered as rather single minded or just don't understand that others don't see the world as black and white, right and wrong. (In this context: a military mind-set)

I am personally disappointed that Ranger has decided to leave us.

I also hope that he will lurk and try to understand where we are coming from and choose to return. I will personally welcome him back. I hope he comes to understand that we are not really Peterson snobs, or Cob snobs, and that many of us can't afford $400 dollar pipes while some of us can. We are all proud of our pipes. There are many of us who's main-stay tobaccos are OTCs, and others smoke almost exclusively English, or VaPers. There are tattoo artists, morticians, musicians, salesmen, doctors (medical and academic), woodsmen, and suburbanites, gainfully and wish-we-were employed. In other-words... men and women that share a passion for our pipes.

It took my father years to understand it's OK to take a chance on things that are unfamiliar while still adhering to what we know as comfortable and familiar, and that family isn't just something to protect, but to nurture and enjoy.

So, I would ask that the membership not cast any dispersions on or toward any member regardless of occupation, situation or military status... Because when we loose a member we are all diminished... And as for Ranger... He's doing a job for our benefit, and that deserves our respect.
Ok, I'm stepping off of my soap-box.

hell, some important things to argue about, that still have not been resolved to my satisfaction, include:
1. The absolute social value of anyone who smokes pipes costing more than $35.99 T(he most I have paid for a pipe yet existing in my collection).
2. Does regular cob smoking lead to buggery and otherwise loose morals?
3. If women are allowed to smoke, should their first pipe be of a higher grade than a Grabow Lark?
An addendum corollary to Item #1 will be revised to $76.00 once my Uncle Arthur "Ward Cleaver" arrives in good condition.

I missed so much by watching tv. Last time I do that without checking here first. I can definitely get the 1-2 mentality. It makes things so less complicated. I've never seen my father with more than two pipes. That being said I try to respect the guy with one pipe as much as the guy with hundreds. They each add value to my experience with their opinions. I do hope ranger comes back. I hate when we lose membership because the forum is great because of our diversity.I don't prefer the frank method for personal use but enjoy your habit. It's like telling someone how to chew. Not my call.

2. Does regular cob smoking lead to buggery and otherwise loose morals?
Most definitely, I see all cob smokers as wearing straw hats, jeans with suspenders and a bottle marked "xxx" in one hand.
You need to have many pipes, how else can you rotate them??

I have never been in the military, but i respect the fu@k out of the men and women who serve our country. there no words I can use to express my love for them, Ranger will be missed by me...
Now for the tobacco packing...I use the, "put pipe in pouch and scoop tobacco" method, I can't waste 20 minutes packing my pipe when i could already be enjoying the comfort of what it brings to me

I just tried the weird "palm of the hand" method in Juni's video. Damned if it doesn't work! It's as if the pipe gobbles up all the tobacco. It almost seemed too weird to work, but now seems surprisingly simple. I may make this a habit.
corn cob buggery can be avoided if you get Uncle Arthur to make you a vulcanite stem that may or may not cost more than the pipe. (Guilty)
Edited to move Zig for great justice
