When opened in about three years, it should increase traffic in the Port of Baltimore by 70%.
I can almost hear my old law professor telling us kids during the worst recession since the Great Depression and interest rates of about 20%—-
A whole lot of people have lost a whole lot of money betting against the United States of America.
That’s as true in 2025 as it was in 1982.
I do assume the new bridge will have state of the art protection against ship strikes.
Another legal issue is whether the owners of the MV Dali will be limited to the value of the ship and the cargo for liability.

Grace Ocean Private and Synergy Marine Group filed a joint petition on 1 April in the Maryland U.S. District Court to limit their liability to about $43.6 million under the Limitation of Liability Act of 1851.[23] Chief judge James K. Bredar is overseeing the proceedings.[24] On 17 April, Grace Ocean Private filed a general average declaration to require cargo owners to cover part of the salvage costs.[25]

This is why that same law professor gave us a very brief lecture about admiralty law:
If it’s a ship in an international waterway, refer the case to an admiralty lawyer.

Design for Maryland's new Key Bridge unveiled nearly a year after tragic collapse
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) unveiled the design for the new Francis Scott Key Bridge almost a year after it was hit by a cargo ship, causing it to collapse.

When opened in about three years, it should increase traffic in the Port of Baltimore by 70%.
