Awesome job! That spiral is killer, following the grain like that made it pop out.

thanks longshot. i have been trying to use the grain as my deciding factor more lately. i think it helps alot visually.

Wow man ! Awesome work. Looks like you switched tools on a few of them ? Maybe you just started using it differently? The rust looks deeper and the lines are longer. Excellent stuff

haven't switched bits, but i am getting looser with them and using the in a different way.

i have tried some of the other cutting bits, but the diamond cut circle burs are just the most versatile. i have been getting deeper with it on the whole. as long as the walls are thick enough.

I like the look of both techniques. The flow of lines on the new style, and the sort of well ordered, stippled/pebble grain look of the old style. The best of all is the right combination of both, and your good at putting the right look in the right place.

The stippled style looks great around the rim of a pipe, like the Peterson I got from you, and the flowing style works great around the sides.

I especially like the areas where you leave some small little islands of smooth briar popping up through rust. The back of the bowl on the second straight bulldog you have pictured is a great example of what I'm talking about. The effect looks like a nice plateau top.

I think your work is very tastfully done: a nice job working with the shape and the grain. Lots of visual interest.

It seems to me you are keenly aware that sometimes, less is more -- and you pull it off well. Nice work.

Nice work. I like how you have both smooth and rusticated on the same pipe. I have never been a fan of a completely rusticated pipe.

cortez - thank you very much sure. i try and try to hold onto keeping things simple and uncomplicated with this, my art, and hell life in general. nice to see it is working in some ways.
riptide - when i first got into pipes i was immediately taken with Nordings approach to partial rustification. the pipes went into boxes for a few years while i was moving all over the country. got back into them earlier this year. a few months ago i did a pipe kit and then just decided to start redoing old estates for my collection and making them look the way i want.
now i have a minor obsession.

After seeing those pipes, well the junk man gets my tools and stay with the Rye.

I can do that with some respect.
