Jason:
That is so cool!
But your description of the nomenclature: "Family Era (Hurlingham is light but visible to the eye)" needs to be punched up compared to most of my estates.
Try: "Crisp. Well Marked. Visible from the ISS."
Now, please make us all feel bad and insanely jealous. Did your coworker pay less than thirty USD for that burner? (I'm such an estate junkie: rummage/tag sales, antique stores/malls and junk shops that I'll always be the rude s.o.b. who asks what you paid. Please forgive me.)
You brought home a coonskin, bub. Well done.

Fnord, I almost spit my coffee across the desk!
OK, so it's pretty visible in certain light or from the ISS as you say.
Now for the kick in the balls...she paid $25. I too was amazed a the price.
Here is a cleaned up picture.

The bowl and tube shot.

Yesterday I didn't have time to comment, Big tractors were working, but this morning Jason that is a Humdinger, and the Story behind it is just as good. Memories, when you get old that's all you got.

That's true Bradley.
As for dating this pipe? Is there any significance of the Made In England and the London England stamping for dating? is the football shaped "made in" before or after?

Just wanted to narrow the field.

The "football" shape was family era, and I was wondering about that. My take away from the article at pipedia was,
As mentioned above, there are exceptions to these guidelines, which can be frustrating.
I would say, with little ability to narrow it down, 1950-79. See the Appledore, and the Prince shape below it at pipephil, both with the one line MADE IN ENGLAND mark...

Question, the inner tube?

After a bit of searching, I see the "football" "Made in England was used on earlier pipes. Just helps to prove the pipe is latter 60's- 1979. Which is still fine.

Yeah that too....I have one.
My question should have been a little more specific, was it fitted into the tenon on the pipe? Not something one expects to see on a Four Dot, however, the previous owner may have also been a Dunhill smoker, and liked the way it worked...

Ah, I am not sure. I assumed it came with it. But it is not like the tube I have in my Dunhill.

I have an Old English (Sasieni 2nd) that came with an inner tube, at least until my ham handed attempt to remove it bent it out of useable shape.

Now she really shines!
Was the inner tube that shiny in the chamber when you got it? If so, it doesn't appear to have been smoked after the tube was inserted.... (?)

Afraid not. It was gunked up too. Soaked and used several ream clean pipe cleaners. It was used because the shank/tenon and mortise were clean(er) than the tube.

Jason:
Swell cleanup, my friend.
I wish we had a Sasieni wizard here. We're blessed with so many knowledgeable people concerning Comoy, DH, DG, Barling, Charatan, GBD, Preben Holm, all of our Canadian cousins, etc., but the inner tube surprised me as well. I have several Sasienis, and their seconds, but this is the first time I've ever run across an inner tube.
At twenty five bucks the seller had no idea what she/he was selling. My guess this is the same seller who slaps a 25 dollar tag on every pipe they run across: be it a dretched out Medico, DG, Yello-Bole or Dunhill.
Obviously, you owe this treasured co-worker beaucoup lunches and a yard mowing or two.
Truly happy for you.

I now have three Sasieni products, the Four Dot, a Mayfair 52(same shape as the Four Dot) and a Tinder Box "Ivory" by Sasieni. All are good smokers and quite interesting.

Huntertrw, funny you asked. I gave her double what she paid. I saw she picked up something extra on the receipt for herself. I paid for both items. She was shocked.

I missed this thread last month. Awesome pipe Jason.
I have joined the "Hurlingham Club". I picked up this one from Briar Blues a few weeks ago:

I gave it its inaugural smoke this morning. I loaded it up with Vintage Syrian. A nice long smoke. Cool and dry right down to the bottom. Beautiful open draw.
