I hate going there because of it. They're trying to turn everywhere like that with ridiculous twisted laws. But I digress. I just love the NC mountains that's all. But Asheville gives me major anxiety.
Hot Springs is a city where the Appalachian Trails passes through, so it is an AT community. We are all the time picking up hitch hikers at the hub to take them to various places, if we happen to be going there. I make them ride in the back of my truck, because damned if they all aren't the smelliest damn people ever. Usually they have spent six weeks in the woods without a bath, so... I don't get too close to them. But, at least the hikers aren't like the hardcore drug users in Asheville. They usually contribute to the city when there, going to the bars, bands, and such. Good folks, just stinky, haha. Many of them will see my pipe, because I am always smoking one, and tell me that they carry a pipe on the trail too. I don't care, but they usually volunteer that they smoke an aromatic something or other, probably signally to me that they didn't mean pot pipe, ha ha.
I will take my dogs up onto the AT every now and then for small hikes. I would love to be able to just walk the whole thing, but unlike these guys, I cannot get away from obligations for over a year to selfishly do that.
