If you are going to have it repaired be damn sure you go to a true repairman not some one who just refurbs pipes. And there are very few of those guys around. Have theguy tell you what he is going to do to the stem and whether or not it will be transparent to anyone who looks at the pipe without magnification.

If you are keeping that pipe as a memento of your grandfather then spending money to have the stem repaired will be worthwhile.

If you are looking at repair for sale, I am not sure if it will be worth your efgort

Charles Maas pipes do not fetch a lot of money, even in an unsmoked state, with a case. You may recoup the cost of the repair, if you’re lucky.

Unfortunately “OLD and interesting” does not = “BIG BUCKS”. ☹️
