Yep, you can get a box of 50 roofing nails for 1.50 at Walmart, they work great! I have picture of them if you would like to see them Kevin!

As far as the tamper is concerned like the others have said a roofing nail works great. Pipe cleaners as a matter of fact can be purchased at Walmart. They keep them in their cigarette area. Mine sells Dills Pipe Cleaners.

There is always the alternative of online purchase for accessories . Not to mention the world of wonderful tobaccos and pipes. Another resource would be tobaccoreviews.com to give new pipe smokers an idea of what to expect. As I said in my email response the art of the pipes alone is a huge draw for me.

Either bubba's suggestion of roofing nails from Wally World or unclearthur on the online route are excellent suggestions. There are many online stores that carry everything that the pipe smoker needs at very reasonable prices, even with shipping added on.
I think one of the pluses for me is the outstanding range of tobaccos currently being produced. There is, quite literally, a tobacco for every taste.
