I was wondering, has anyone in this forum purchased from 'Forver stems'? If so...
DO you think upgrading a MM cob stem to a $22-25 Lucite is particularly wise?
I was thinking to purchase a church warden but i found that this site: http://www.walkerbriarworks.com/html/cobs___stems.html can custom fit my MM diplomat's stem into a churchwarden.
What are your thoughts? save my money? And find a churchwarden that has an Acrylic stem?

I have 2 "forever" stems from Walker Briar Works, one green and one blue. I got the 5" stems and they fit all of my MM cobs.
I found a couple of MM cob stems, factory bent black like nylon that were restricted in the bend area and would not pass a thin pipe cleaner. After finding Walkers site, I ordered the 2 stems and could not be more satisfied. A gentle arch for the bent stem that is not restricted at all.
That reminds me, I wanted to order a regular short stem to use while driving. 8)

I also looked at those stems. They look real nice and the point that patiobum makes about passing a pipe cleaner through the MM stems is spot on. However, do I want to spend that kind of money on a $10 pipe? Still debating that with myself.

PATIOBUM, are these stems the same size as a standard cob stem? I have a few cobs, but I find that the stem/bit it too small/narrow for my big mouth. I do like to clench.

The stem is " forever " I move it from one cob to another as they rest.
I do like to clench.
Well, I clench too. Hold that cob while I go about my happy putzing around the garage.
Never had a problem.
Just a thought, email Walker and ask if he has a lil wider stem for clenching ?
** I looked on his site and the Lucite " spear " appears to the the widest. **

** I called after I placed my order and was told that the spear is the widest and the thickest, perfect for us clenchers** 8)

I agree with patiobum. The forever stems are meant to be interchangable with any of your cobbs, not just one.

Firstly...Dave at Walker Briar Works is a fine fellow to do business with.

Secondly...I find it difficult to justify that much of an outlay for a "forever stem" when you can get replacement stem for the cobs on ebay for about $2

Thirdly...While I am not a fan of the original stems on the cobs, I have found peace and comfort with the Jake Hackert cobs which have a vulcanite stem and can usually be purchased for just under $20 if my memory is correct.... :D

Thanks for the inputs
This is a stupid question... Is Lucite material the same as Acrylic?

Should I ever decide to add a high quality stem to a cob I will buy a pre-made from a pipemaker's supplier and adapt it. Can't see spending that kind of money on a stem for a cob.

I have put forever stems on refurbished pipes with great success, very nice stems.

I bought a forever stem and use it on my country gent, diplomat and the lil standard size cob..i love the stem it makes my cobs feel like a much more $$ pipe..They look great. turning a cob into a cool looking pipe and I cant say enough good things about the FS. I bought the longer 4 plus inch stem in a red tortoise color. it looks great and smokes great. like a shorter churchwarden. Being able to use them on most of my cobs makes the price a little easier. but they just have made a huge difference in how much i like my cobs. I am a huge fan of them!!
the web site does talk about the fit and how they tend to fit better on a newer cob due to how the wood tends to expand and contract etc... but you can sand them down a bit if need be.

I happen to love my cobs, and since it is "a forever stem" I'd say why not dress up your cob. After all it's not like you can't move it to a different one later. I just might have to order one or two for my self.

I'm seriously thinking of getting the "nose warmer" stem. That would be great for driving. Hmmmm... rent and groceries or more pipe stuff... meh... I can always stay at mom's for a few weeks!
