Most of the things that have been mentioned fall under the heading of "some guys just have different esthetics" and that's how he likes to make them. What I can't get past is the marks in the bowl- I enlarged it to get a better look- these bowls are nicely sanded and the marks aren't concentric with the center as you'd expect if it was burned when sanding. It looks like someone stuck a Sharpie marker in the chamber to check the depth and accidentally left the cap off...Which makes you go..."Hmmmm"

Either that or they were hoodwinked and couldn't get their cash back after receiving the pipe lot.
I figured super-high dollar nonsense like this would be sold on consignment, but maybe not. You think they paid for this as regular inventory? Eek.

I just enlarged the pic where the bit meets the stummel and it doesn't look good.
This is a decent looking chunk of briar but I wouldn't pay more than maybe 75 bucks for this.
