I have consistently had the flu shot for over 30+ years, I've had the pneumonia series of shots and the shingles series. Trust me I have known several folks with shingles you don't want even a mild case.

When I worked at Winn Dixie I used to cut meat i got to the point where I was a butcher by ( title) hated the people I worked with so asked for a transfer. Ended up as a pharmacy technician. I administered countless flu shots ( mostly to older people) I can tell you that most of the patience had mixed reviews on the subject. I can also tell you that most patience if they did get the flu it was mild and manageable. I get a shot every year and encourage most people to do so as well

Here on the West Coast, we have a huge medical provider/HMO called Kaiser Permanente, of which I am a member. They are big advocates of flu vaccines and make them very easy to get, so I have been getting them the past few years, and have not gotten the flu. Based on my own experiences, the flu is not a trivial thing, and I am happy to get the vaccine. During my physical on Monday, I was informed that it was also time for Tetanus and Pneumonia vaccines as well. So I got 3 shots, and 5 vials of blood drawn on Monday. Folks, I have not had this many needles stuck in my arm since, well, uh, nevermind.

The only time I’ve ever had “flu like symptoms” was when the Corpsmen gave me a required flu shot all of the 5 years I was in. I will never say they don’t have their place but I’ve decided I won’t get another one until I’ve retired.

I have a condition called Benign Fasciculation Syndrome (or so the docs think/hope). During the testing last january to eliminate other conditions (its a diagnosis of exclusion) i had 11 vials drawn in two days, as well as an emg (needles in every muscle and some electric jolts through the nerves). I counted 31 sticks in 48 hours. It SUCKED ASS. I can relate....

sure made the flu shot seem like a breeze though!

Don't underestimate the placebo effect. I got mine as we're required (red cross volunteer).

It was mandatory in the Air Force, and I've continued to get it every year since. Haven't had the flu in over 40 years, so I guess it works.

alakanpiper, I used to do several allergy shots a week and I have had more surgeries/procedures than I care to relate. I feel pretty ’needle-immune”. That EMG was another beast altogether. I felt like a frog in a sadistic biology experiment.

In Navy boot camp it seemed we were collectively immunized against something almost daily. Fortunately, I was not emotional about shots. After that, getting picky about an annual flu shot seemed like splitting hairs. I may still be slightly immune to various tropical diseases. When I got sent overseas, I received more shots. Whew. One time they lined us up for oral polio vaccine, and our company commander (Navy drill instructor) started to pass out untreated sugar cubes and bravely admitted he thought it was a treat to reward us for another shot.

Yeah, I remember doing the old school allergy testing when I was a kid where they stick your arm like 100 times. EMG definitely worse. The needles aren't so horrible, it's when the neurologist starts flicking them and moving them while they are in the muscle when it really starts to suck. Your frog description is not inaccurate, haha. It's not the worst thing ever, but it sure is not what I'd call fun.

Our Publix Grocers offers a $10 gift card for each vaccination. We would all get one regardless, but my wife forces the whole family down to rack up $50 worth of free groceries. She would take the neighbors if she could, ha ha. That woman loves gift cards. .
DAMN! I'd be all over that! Is it just for flu vaccines or any vaccine? What all can you be vaccinated for? I'll take all of them please....

I don't know why Jameis Winston was even bothering with stealing those crab legs when apparently he could have just gotten a couple of shots and walked out with the crab legs free and clear.

I hate taking medicine(not on any prescriptions either). I have never taken the flu shot and don't intend to until the need comes along. I'm sure now that I'm approaching 50 yrs old, I may have to at some point but not now.

Not saying I agree or disagree with vaccinations in general...some years I get a flu shot and some years don't bother...regardless, I thought this was cute.
