Maybe smoking is only unhealthy for the sedentary and those whose only exercise is mouse-clicking. ?
We all indulge in risk-taking every day - eating the "wrong" foods, drinking alcohol, smoking. Where do we stop ?Accidents versus personal choice to introducing poisons into one's system? I fail to see any similarity.
Forgot to respond to this one! This is an interesting point and one that I think has some validity. I heard somewhere recently that around 300 minutes of exercise per week that elevates the heart rate can offset the negative side effects of moderate cigar smoking. I can't remember where exactly I heard this, however, and I do not have any research at hand to support the claim. Just something I heard! maybe I will look into this next!Maybe smoking is only unhealthy for the sedentary and those whose only exercise is mouse-clicking. ?
That's very true and, incidentally, I admire your keen grasp of the obvious. I suppose you are saying, since we'll all die in the end healthy choices are a waste of time? I suppose one could use that for a rationale. An easy view for sure, no weighing of risk v reward, no research required. Death comes to us all so no care need be exercised. One doesn't need to look left or right before crossing the street. Why check to see if the chamber is empty, just turn it all over to fate. I kinda admire your outlook on life. Not for me but, if it suits you . . . go for it.My point was that you can take all the care in the world to minimise harm to oneself, but some random event can wipe you out.

Thanks for the lovely welcome and for sharing your experience with me! I love your Calvin and Hobbes user picture as well!Welcome Dankpipez. I started as a once a week pipe smoker too. Enjoy, and proceed with due regard…however you perceive it.
Living in a war zone for a year taught me to take no unnecessary risk, but living through the pandemic has taught me to spare no reason for joy. I’m somewhere in the middle now with pipe smoking and enjoy in happy moderation.
Bicycle helmets are an incredibly important part of cycling safety. Also, don't forget to wear your seatbelt when you drive your convertible!I enjoy riding my motorcycle.
And I only do it while driving my automobile and I put the convertible top down.
And here's a study I found regarding the safety of bicycle helmet use.
I hope you enjoy. I had to use, like, 47 words or so.
Bicycle injuries and helmet use: a systematic review and meta-analysis - PubMed
Bicycle helmet use was associated with reduced odds of head injury, serious head injury, facial injury and fatal head injury. The reduction was greater for serious or fatal head injury. Neck injury was rare and not associated with helmet use. These results support the use of strategies to...pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
A doctor put it to me this way. Whatever your base line is for lung health or over all health smoking is going to drop it from there. Or in other words I've meet a few professionals that agree with you. At least in the short and mid terms in the long term it can wreck the lungs past the point of compensation. When I was a young copper, my Lieutenant and I ran four mile four days a week. We both smoked Camels as we ran. My observation then was, smoking makes it harder to keep in shape but, didn't prohibit such.
